Moderation Discussions

Moderation in Bountiful is accomplished by several moderators. If you disagree with the action of any one moderator, please either contact another moderator to help you resolve the issue, or start a public discussion in the Moderation area. If requested by the complaining party, a panel of modera...

I have had to take the unfortunate step of banning RayB. Ray has recently repeatedly violated the rules of this forum, apparently with the aim of testing the moderation system. According to the rules of this forum: If you choose to not abide by the rules, your posting privileges may be suspended or you...

Quick suggestion: I think that all the mods should be able to edit and delete posts on all forum areas. Arbi is too busy to monitor the forum, and Hoss's post this morning has stood for hours longer than it should have. Just as an example. Just my opinion...

Hoss Cartwright has been banned. I must confess mystification as to why he chooses to spread hate and derision. But he won't be doing it here any longer. Hopefully now we can get back to our regular programming.

Hey, Arbi and Mirkwood: Cocbeam swore on the "goodbye" thread. -- Edited by arbilad at 19:25, 2008-04-22

It's getting so a body can't even post without getting edited anymore. Arbi, you need to get your minions under control!!

rayb · rayb

It was discussed privately among the moderators, and the moderators have decided to change the intent of this forum and the method of moderation on the board. From now on, The moderators will simply take action as they see fit. There will be no more public or private notification of the moderation ta...

I deleted a snide comment from the thread Goodbye. It was posted by Hoss. I also deleted a post by Jen referring to Hoss' post. Hoss, we're happy to have you participate here if you abide by the rules of the forum. But this is official warning that willful rulebreaking will not be tolerated.

Since it seems that Hoss is itching for a fight, I have deleted his post and moved it here. arbilad wrote: DaKnife, please refrain from the use of pejorative words. I am temporarily suspending democracy on this board. For a week from today, I will be summarily deleting personal conflicts, insults, etc. as I perceive them. I'm not perfect, and I won't get all of it. And there will be some stuff that is perceived by some as contentious that I don't perceive that way....

arbilad · arbilad

There has been quite a big to do over Cat's use of an uncivil word. The argument is spilling over into all sorts of discussions. I've deleted some of those argument extensions, and this is forewarning that I will be deleting any such discussions I find anywhere. This is a warning to everyone to keep a civ...

The latest discussions about exchanges and counter-exchanges got me to thinking about some basic rules of ettiquette. Here's what I've come up with thus far... Do you agree, disagree? Think there should be different bullet points, no bullet points, fewer? Are they redundant? Do they even need to b...

I closed the "Attack the Competition" thread. Everyone (yes, everyone) take a deep breath, sit back, and think about if there was a kinder way to put what you wanted to say. Refer to the "Tongue of Angels" thread in the rules area.

rayb · rayb

Alrighty folks. I've not been PM'd or emailed or anything like that, and I have no desire to cause any strife, but this is your forum, folks, and I'm curious. Should I moderate the Marine Sniper joke? Clearly the allusion to profanity is there, and the use of the word "homo" as a derogative st...

The "I'm back" thread has been closed for contention. Please let me know if you have any objections to this action.

arbilad · arbilad

I have temporarily closed the "virtual vacation" thread. I think that emotions are still raw enough right now that it could easily flare up. I'll reopen it later when it seems that we have all forgiven and forgotten.

arbilad · arbilad

I have closed the "trip" thread in Humor because of the charged atmosphere of the discussion.

arbilad · arbilad

Effective immediately, Cat Herder is no longer a moderator. I appreciate his service, and he helped this board grow at a time when it wasn't clear that there would be enough participation to justify the monthly fees. But, I have decided that it is unhealthy for the board to have a moderator that is freq...

Since the vote seems to be overwhelmingly in favor of including some private moderation in the process, here is my proposed language for the new rules. Let me know what you think: Thanks to Cat Herder for the bulk of the language of this post. In the effort to remain fair and impartial when emotions, tem...

arbilad · arbilad

There has been much discussion lately about private contact between moderator and offender being more kind than public intervention, which frequently results in humiliation. If you vote yes on this question, I will amend the rules and submit them for approval before making them official.

I have banned Fear of Shiz, because he no longer meets one of the basic requirements of this forum. Simply put, he is no longer a member of the LDS church. I regret Shiz leaving this forum. I regret him leaving the church. But only he and Casi can determine the path which they will take, and I wish them well a...

This week, I made two requests to Coco to self-edit small portions of posts she made in two LDS Discussion threads. To avoid confusion and consternation by anyone as a result of these requests, I am posting the reason for the requests here. The first was in "Topics that employ". While raz...

I edited Ray's post in the Porn thread because it contained a lot of what seemed to me like details of a specific situation, and not an abstraction as is more appropriate to the thread. I will close down the thread if it starts dealing with specific situations.

The Chatbox appears to be broken/nonfunctional/disabled or under new management.

bokbadok · bokbadok

I would like to formally request that we adopt a community rule that flushing the chatbox is disallowed.

Hoss Cartwright · Hoss Cartwright

I would just like to renew my request that we make the super-secret vault a place where we post exclusively those things that we don't want non-board participants to see. It's tedious to me to have to log in to see stuff that could be posted anywhere. Frankly, there hasn't been a decent "members...
