Chatbox rule - no flushing

I would like to formally request that we adopt a community rule that flushing the chatbox is disallowed.

Coco, I can moderate the moderation area too. Please be civil.

I vote for no flushing as well.

Besides it being inconsiderate and a waste of bandwidth resource, it is rude beyond belief to everyone else using the tool.

An enforceable punishment needs to be affixed to the breaking of the rule too, Arbi.

Back to the discussion at hand. It's nothing personal at all. But I like to be able to read a whole discussion, and it's a pain in the butt to scroll back (especially while the flooding/flushing is still happening) to get what I missed in the conversation.

I dunno. I don't think it's something that could be enforced. I do not care for the "attack flushing" that happens there sometimes, but if someone in a convo wanted to clear the chatbox afterwards and the others there were okay with it, I think that's fine.

About the bandwidth, does the chatbox effect our hosting costs? I thought I remembered hearing that it didn't?

Coco, if we asked nicely, would you consider not doing the "attack flushing" anymore and ask first if you really felt something should be cleared?

Please.

Fine. I was just having fun. I thought it was funny because we were pretending to run from the gubment. Apparently I think stuff is funny that other people do not.

I will have to take my funny and go play somewhere else.

Still waiting for the enforceable punishment from Cat.

It may not affect our hosting costs, but it ties up everyone's individual bandwidth as they try to keep up and scroll back.

Oh, and Chief Anderton informs me that some ideas he has thought about for enforcement could include chipping the guilty and storing them somewhere so the flushing is continually shown to the guilty party's mind... devilish.gif

And of course, it would all be pro-active, based of the pre-cognition of some socially awkward folks relaxing in a hot tub...

An enforceable punishment, though not one I think would be popular or even approved, would be a temporary suspension of posting privileges to the forum.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on if you're not Chief Anderton), that is a bit extreme and the punishment doesn't really fit the crime. Besides, good pre-cogs are so hard to find these days... wink.gif

Okay, fine. I see where I have indeed been causing consternation to some folks. I acknowledge my role in their mental anguish and evil thoughts aimed toward me that they will at some point need to repent of, but that's another matter. Further, I take full responsibility for my uncontrolled flushing habit, even if MrCoco and my real life friends do not see it as a real problem.  It certainly is a problem nonetheless.  I will absolutely never engage in this flushing again and if I do - no, I just won't.  My people at Bountiful are just that precious to me.  Precious enough to give up my joy of flushing.  There's just something about it that makes me giggle.gif  But no, I will not dwell on those unholy thoughts and the justifications and the why's and how's and what for's. I will not subject my precious people at Bountiful to this trepidation which is completely selfish on my part.  I cannot.  I will not.  So let it be written.  So let it be done.

Better Jen, or was it simply because of who tried to make the funny?

.
.
.
.
.
until you clear the whole chatlog -- which is a lot of .'s

If it's yellow, let it mellow. ..

Flushing is typing something small and hitting enter over and over again, so as to flood the chat or flush the conversation. It causes everyone else to either miss what was being said, or scroll many many pages back to try and catch it.

When you're trying to make a funny, it's best to joke about your own trials, not make fun of other people. It would have been rude no matter who said it, Cat.

flushing is the repeated and quick posting in the chatbox of nothing or gibberish just to "flush away" what was being talked about. It disrupts the ability of others in the chatbox to continue a meaningful discussion and / or prevents others from seeing what had been said as the older posts drop out of the history.

Who was making fun of any person or anyone else's trials?  Am I to understand that this is and has been a serious discussion beyond the request that we make a rule that says it is bad form to "flush" in the chatbox?  If so, could have fooled me...

Sorry...

You were joking about 12-steps, Cat. Something that one of our members is going through right now. I don't really want to play games, or make this into the All About Cat show, so I'll leave it at that.

Hey now let's not derail my complaint thread with ancillary discussions. Jen, why don't you start your own moderation thread to ask that Cat be punished?

Joking... joking.

He did say he was sorry, and rapidly edited his post. Can that be the end of it?

Loud Mouth Mormon- thanks for asking what I wanted to ask, I was also wondering what flushing was. Thanks to Jen and the others who explained it.

Did you hear that everyone? Coco cares more about us than her flushing fettish. I'm so touched.
I think I'm going to cry. That's gotta be one of the most unselfish things I've ever seen anyone do.
:wipes tear from eye: Bless you Coco. tears.gif

I would like to join Poncho and "bare" my testimony that Coco is the true flusher... it is a personal joy to witness how she is willing to sacrifice her desires for those that have not been converted to flushing... (haven't seen it that often myself, but then I tend to kind of ignore the "box")

I search my heart that I can someday be as willing to put others so far ahead of my own interest... Good night and nemA tears.gif

The agonizing, excruciating, stinging agony is but a meaningless, microscopic moment when I think of my people of Bountiful.

This is fair warning to stop the derail and get on topic, or I will mercilessly start deleting posts.

one thing about the chatbox that stinks is that you can't edit your message once it's there... so you kinda want it to go away after a while.

In that case... I could care less if anyone flushes the chat box...  But then I don't really care of thread goes away after a while either...  "Maaaaw... I am becoming apathetic again..."    wink.gif  (Said in a Marlon Brando voice... and in case you don't get the reference, it's "Daddy, I got cider in my ear...")

Not allowed to go off topic in mod threads. That's an actual rule.
