Food and Water Storage

When fruit such as peaches, pears, apricots, and apples are canned, do they lose their nutrition value? I am also concerned about the amount of sugar used in the canning process, either in home canning or at a Church cannery. Anybody have insight into this?

Some Swedish inventor came up with bags for composting human waste. If he does manage to sell them for 2 or 3 cents a bag, you could easily get a year's supply of these things for when things collapse. If he does start selling them this summer, and you can buy them in the US, I will buy some.

Does anybody else detest gardening and do it just because it is a commandment? I can actually enjoy digging up and preparing the ground, and even hoeing the rows. If you like milk fat, store cans of evaporated milk in addition to dry milk. If you add a cup of water to a cup of evaporated milk, you have something that is a lot like milk and has milk fat in it. This isn't as important for baking, where non fat dry milk is fine. But, for instance, if you want to add milk to you...

I don't think it would be news to anyone here to say that the church has been focusing a lot on preparation lately. If you have a wet pack cannery near you, you might check into whether or not they're doing honey soon. My cannery is, and at $11 for a half gallon, it's really cheap.

On a prepper board that I belong to, people are discussing how to prep now that disaster seems to loom over us. How grateful I am that I heeded counsel and have worked at gathering supplies through the years. Yes, it has been a nuisance to haul it around when I've moved. Yes, it takes up space. Yes, I could h...

I love the canned cheese that you can get from MRE Depot, but I discovered something recently: It just does not melt. At all. Ever. We opened a can and used it for cooking. Just wondering if corned beef can be home canned and if so, what's the procedure? Can't find an answer in any of my canning books or online. What do you do with apples as part of your food storage? We're going to the church farm to pick this week, and I anticipate gleaning a lot of them :).
