Non food preparedness

We moved in nearly 2.5 years ago and still don't know most of our neighbors. Many of them are elderly or shut-in. Our lots are 1 to 1.5 acre lots so we are a bit spread out and we don't see much of each other. We had a Stake Conference dedicated to missionary work recently. We had been thinking of having peop...

Since the preacher a week or two ago that was shot dead at the pulpit, I've had a couple of random questions. How vulnerable are we at church? I had this thought that maybe some guys are packing heat- asked to or maybe not- for the protection of the people in church. It would make sense to me. And what about t...

I was listening to a radio show this morning and they were talking about Obama's views on guns. There was a guy in Illinois whose home was broken into and he had several things stolen, including his car. The next night he was putting his kids in bed and heard something in the kitchen. He goes down, sees...

So, I just applied for my gun license. I wanted your opinions on which handgun to purchase as my first. I will be using it for personal protection and practice/target shooting. We recently got ourselves a handcrank shortwave radio and were playing around with it last night. We picked up a lot Spanish speakers but we also picked up an Austalian accent, a definite Slavic-Eastern European voice and some Chinese music. It was kind of fun. Fun stuff aside, this radio is part...

I've been thinking about this lately and I'm wondering what others do to prepare financially. No, I'm not asking where you're hiding your gold boullion or for any financial particulars. This may not be the best place for this, but oh well. Early last week hiccups got me thinking about Birkenstocks. ('Obsessing' might be a better term...) I finally had a chance to see [the 2007 movie] "I Am Legend", and analyzed it as a writer, and from a technical perspective. Over 3 million are without power in South Florida, and they don't know the cause. Preparedness isn't just for conspiracy theorists. I bet that anyone there with a year's supply, a means to cook it, and water, is having a much better time of it than everyone else.
