How long will it take your house to fall apart?

http://home.howstuffworks.com/house-entropy.htm

Living in the pacific Northwest, waterdamage is a big deal... In fact I've got a wood shed in my backyard that's listing to one side... :(

fools mock, but they shall mourn... or in this case... have to clean up a big mess of rotted wood.

Dry rot is always a challenge Ray. My parents have a house at the coast and we are constantly fighting it over there. Last year the deck had to be completely rebuilt because of dry rot. My dad has declared jihad on every plant and tree that is near the building to keep the shade off the wood. Sunlight is our friend!!

Unfortunately I think my house will fall apart most quickly from "kid rot". :)

I have gratitude that I have a home made of bricks and that humidity is LOW and rain is lower.

is there any substance to build from which doesn't have drawbacks or aging issues?

with the amount of rainfall we generally experience, keeping the house in good repair is a neverending process.

we have seen houses that were empty for renting or that had been up for sale for a long time that just seem to age while they sit. hubby and I wondered why that happens. it's almost like the houses are lonely for people.

The elements would eventually break down any material.

Try building your house out of plastic bags, they take forever to decompose.

If you have missionaries living in your house, your house will fall apart 10-100 X faster.

I hear twinkies and hotdogs last forever in a landfill. That's the way to go! That and a fence made of pastry. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
