Massive power outages in South Florida

Over 3 million are without power in South Florida, and they don't know the cause. Preparedness isn't just for conspiracy theorists.
I bet that anyone there with a year's supply, a means to cook it, and water, is having a much better time of it than everyone else.

Yep and no power over that wide a scale often means no cell phone towers either and what few are still on probably are clogged up.

Yes, speaking of Duke's comment... I've heard that before. I think in Mother Earth News or something about the cell phones being totally jammed whenever an emergency like a power outage comes up. Interesting.

I wanted to train some homing pigeons to fly between my parents' house and our house, about 10 miles apart. Then MrCoco had to shoot it down with his whole hawks and eagles comment. rolleyes

Apparently the outtage was due to a nuclear power plant that shut down for some reason undisclosed. Just the other day we had an outtage just out of the blue. Annoys the crap out of me now that I've not the money to replace the food in my freezer.

At the World Ag Expo in Tulare, CA it is almost expected that no calls in or out will get through. The system gets overloaded and becomes unusable. I often leave voicemails for people who attend it and am lucky to get a call back several hours later. Usually they can get me after they leave the Expo. On 9-11 the parts of the system that still worked after the towers came down were almost immediatly overloaded. Without power or communications, even the simple AM/FM radio can help keep you sane.
