Today I took my oldest daughter to work with me, because her class was going on a fieldtrip to see a play done by some acting group called, "High School Musical". My daughter didn't have a good feeling about going. Apparently she has a lot of friends who play the music to this musical all the ti...

As a general rule, are you good at multitasking? Do you switch gears easily or do you get set on one course and have to see it out to the very end? When you work, do you prefer to work on one task at a time really well, or on a whole bunch of little things, or aspects of a bunch of problems all at once? If I want to ge...

I woke up this morning to DD2 (almost 3 years old) crying that she couldn 't get in her little bed. I looked and the child was covered head to waist in blood. Yay for bleeding noses! Here's where the sickness comes in: she had worn her bumblebee costume to bed (she's had this thing for 2 years and wears it mor...

I am scheduled to take the GRE tomorrow and I am scared stiff. Throughout my schooling I did great at every standardized test I ever took, and I never studied for them. It was one of the few things in life I considered myself good at. But it's been 15 years since I have been in school, and the last 10 years...

Okay, I was listening to a little coast to coast radio last night on the drive home from work (Yes, when you're done yucking it up, you may continue reading...) Racking horses are sooooo fun to ride! Have you ever ridden one? This gait is called a "rack" - basically it's a four-beat, reeeeealy fast walk, about 25+mph. It's smooth, though (see minimal bouncing on rider's part) so it's easy to ride. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Ok, for those who produce estrogen and testosterone alike, I'm just curious, do most women swoon when they hear Josh Grobin's voice and do most men just roll their eyes? Or how many of you are thinking "who the heck is Josh Grobin?" One of the pharmacists I work with made a copy of a CD for me wit...

I thought this was interesting about the way the classroom is evolving. Are we teaching our children to discipline and prepare themselves for this sort of life? How do we go about doing it? Any thoughts? Maybe we should reward the kids who look off their neighbor's papers. :) [youtube=http://youtub...

I just discovered a new (to me!) music site. www.pandora.com You input songs or artists that you like and they find and play similar music. I'm having a blast and so far it's pretty smart. Finally a station that plays stuff I am interested in.

Remember back in the old days when there was a truant officer? Well our state has decided to bring that "idea" back. They have instituted a policy where kids are not allowed to miss a certain number of days of school per year or per semester. The policy was designed to affect grades 8-12, but o...

These past two weeks, I've had formal goal-setting conferences with parents before and after school.
