I am assuming 100 grains is about one bowl, since the bowl kept resetting at that point... That's pretty cool... I donated 500 grains (5 bowls?) before I ran out of gas... gotta move to the bed for a while now... BTW I was at a 50 vocab level... whatever that means... could it mean I missed 2 words, out of 52??? Not bad for a crazy lady...

VERY very good link Jen...
Whoa! There are 50 levels. In the FAQ it says people rarely get above level 48. That means you have an amazing vocabulary! Way to go!

Yeah... In the faq section it says There are 50 levels in all, but it is rare for people to get above level 48.
But it's also a moving scale, as more people play the levels will probably change some... I just played a while gave some more rice to the hungry... I like the game cause unlike most word games it challenges me. Having a Latin understanding helps me figure out roots within the words... It's more than an advantage... it's almost like cheating... The words I miss usually have Greek roots... Nevertheless it is embarrassing to me that I missed this following word...
catoptric ~~~~ relating to mirrors
I am blaming my association on this forum with "Cat", cause the definition I chose fit... HIM at least...
Sorry........ well not really, THAT was funny....... I didn't even think how that sounded as a joke... Glad you guys saw the humor...
The REAL problem was I thought in terms of ~ cat-op-tric, instead of ca-top-tric... not to mention cat, doesn't really MEAN "Cat" ~ as in a feline, even IF I was breaking up the word incorrectly... It was my own brain lapse... But it was truly an "absent of thought" one... Anyway, I still like the game, and I think it CAN help people to learn new vocab, and so I sent the link to a bunch of people I know too... I like there is some good coming from the advertising... Probably one of the few times THAT can be said...
a "dramaturge" is not a playwright! My friend is in school for dramaturgy, and the dramaturge is the play's historian, to ensure that the play is done historically accurately. In fact, if you look in the playbill, you can usually find the dramaturg's notes, so that you can understand some of the choices of the director in the play.
I've found some other inconsistencies. If they are words I know I can sometimes guess what the correct answer is (as in this one), but they are in no way equal.
I guess I'm too much of a mathematician. That equals sign means a lot to me!

Grrrr, I tried to cheat and hit the back button whenever I got a wrong answer, but it wouldn't register my correct answer after having used the back button.

Best I can do is 42 so my hats off to you guys that got 50. If I hadn't taken that one semester of Latin back in college I would never have gotten over 35.

There were quite a few that were like that for me as well. So I would then try to figure out which of the words is closest. Most of the time I was right, but every once in a while I would have two words that seemed to be just as close to what I thought was the definition, and I would incorrectly guess. Oh well.
I mean immolate, out of the options ,destroy in sacrifice is the correct answer. But it should be, to destroy something (probably in a sacrifice) via burning it.
So websites make money for how many hits their site gets while the ad banner is being displayed. So the freerice.com makes money with every new click, regardless of one correctly or incorrectly defining a word, right? So while each correct definition donates money equivalent to ten grains of rice to the U.N., each incorrect definition makes somebody else 10 grains richer...

Yeah, but I feel more enriched by having something tangible next to me... makes me feel like I've accomplished something meaningful... kind of like when doing assignments for my old high school etymology class...

thanks bok for having faith in me... You are right... it didn't even occur to my brain to cheat... FWIW, I have not hit the same highs that I hit the first few times I played... so I think as more people play the averages continue to fall slightly... I hover between 46-48 now...
Personally... I love words. I think language is beautiful, I like both poetry and prose... In fact that is one of the reasons why I believe that vulgarity in speaking/writing offends the senses... It disrupts the flow of language with harshness... Does that make sense to anyone else?
I spent most of the day having more tests so... I didn't play today... I should probably send a #10 can of rice...
I took two years of Latin in high school and a semester in college....
I think your highest level depends on how well you do at the beginning. I started with a 39 this time, and worked myself up to a 43 before I dropped and then averaged around 35 as per usual.
