I was giving the VT message today and among other things it quoted D&C 132:19... And again, verily I say unto you, if a man amarry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and beverlasting covenant, and it is csealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of dpromise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I hav...

Did you know, the Gospel helps me to be a better person... a nicer person... sometimes it may feel like I'm just doing the right thing cuz it's what Jesus would have me do... and it ain't at all the thing I'd normally do... heck it may even come off as a little insincere sometimes, I suppose... but I've just...

No, I know it is not my call and will not say anything, but we have some convert baptisms scheduled. I am dubious. It is for three children, all under the age of 12, two in one family and one from another. Parents are and have been totally inactive for years, one family has just come the last several Sund...

Did anyone here attend the broadcast yesterday? I was able to go and was looking forward to discussing some of the things they taught. It was a very good meeting.

President Hinckley passed away tonight at about 7 pm at his home. He was an incredible man.

Jen · Jen

I don't think this has ever happened before!

Smaug · Smaug

Did you get the chance to watch or listen to President Hinckley's funeral? I was working, but listened to it on my walkman. I was deeply touched several times during the ceremony, and the closing hymn was beautiful. Any thoughts?

Jen · Jen

I'm just wondering what the church-wide norm is, since I've lived in the same place most of my life.

This was sent to me by a friend. I'm going to have to track down a copy of the book and read it. Gerald Lund's book The Coming Of The Lord has a chapter on this topic that is very good too. A new book, His Return - Prophecy, Destiny and Hope by Richard N. Skousen, using scriptures and modern revelations, exp...

Hugh Nibley, The Prophetic Book of Mormon, p.530 About two hundred years after Christ visited the people, they became tired of intellectual integrity and self-control and opted to give up the law of consecration. From then on everything went in a fatal declension, each step of which has been duly ma...

Alright, what does the Bountiful brain trust think about this. Our branch is unique in that many do their own thing, and ties are one of them. But I am curious as one friend has a looney tunes tie he wears and has received comments from stake councilmen on it. Another brother had a Chiefs football tie a...

Christ has said, "Come ye heavy laden, and I will give you rest." And He has said, "For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." What do these things mean? I have been quite heavy laden for a long time, frankly, I feel like I am being crushed. I have not had rest in a long time, physical...

I have a new class in Primary, with the new year. I have the 4-5-6 year olds - it's sort of combined. There's 12 kids and I have a co-teacher who is there about 1/2 to 3/4 of the time. One of the children is a bit mentally challenged. He does well when he has a "job" to do and when things are "...

Rather than telling the youth to be rocks, I've decided I'd rather encourage them to emulate those who have been steadfast and immoveable in their faith, abounding in good works. I was thinking about the nature of immortality and Zion the other day, mostly because I'm working on a new fantasy story series, in which there may be some characters or a race of characters which are immortal, and it occurred to me that if such a society were to exist ever, that the characters would HAVE...

I was recalling a fireside by our SP and wife talking about their trip to Jerusalem, etc. He, speaking about the visit to the Sea of Galilee, said, "Today I swam where Jesus walked." It was funny. But today I'm thinking... what's up with that? There is some kind of thought process that goe...

You have a calling. This calling requires not only a great deal of prerequisite experience and skill, but also a lot of preparation before every week's meeting. You do that preparation to the best of your ability, and with all the time you have to give. (Not that it matters all that much, but this is a ver...

Last Sunday we had ward conference, so we were in the temple with our Stake Presidency the day before. I helped in the baptistry with our youth. OK, many of us have heard the quotes from Boyd K. So, sta...

How much responsibility do you feel as far as taking care of your parents? Do you make decisions keeping your parents' welfare in mind? One of the political threads got me curious. I've never read anything by Cleon Skousen, but the general feel I get from friends and family is that occaionally he's a little speculative or just plain "out there." I attended a Relief Society class in my parents' ward once, where one sister...

Have you ever had to love someone who hated the church? I'm not talking about is neutral to the church, but openly cynical or hostile about it.
