Be steadfast and immovable...

Rather than telling the youth to be rocks, I've decided I'd rather encourage them to emulate those who have been steadfast and immoveable in their faith, abounding in good works.

To be a Ruth
...an Abinidi,
...a Helaman,
...a Joseph.

Who would you recommend? Why?

(edit---immoveable?)

Captain Moroni, of course; if only because if every man were like him the very powers of hell would be forever shaken.

I like Mormon when he talked to his son Moroni in Moroni 9:6...
"And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God."

You can't get much more helpless than they were at that time. They were not going to convert anyone by this point. It wasn't about results or joy in the work of building Zion anymore. They were witnessing the extinction of their people by a bloodthirsty, devilish nation. But. Nevertheless. They had a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay. This scripture has always been an inspiration to me. Even when all is hopeless, we still carry on.

Excellent...more please.

It's true, I know all the great hero's of the scriptures and could look up what I need, but I'm attempting to save some time.

I'm going to create big posters of the people with the scriptures that define their faith and relate them to the original theme.  Mormon with
"let us labor diligently; . . . that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God."

and etc.

Please continue.

Joseph Smith
Brigham Young
Spencer W. Kimball
Gordon B. Hinckley
Levi Savage, Jr.
Abraham Lincoln
George Washington
John Adams
Abraham
Adam
Enoch
Noah
Eliza Snow
Newell K and Elizabeth Ann Whitney

I don't know if I can succinctly elaborate on any of these individuals. I guess I just consider them to be the type of person that is worthy of emulation.

A stripling warrior.

And as the remainder of our army were about to give way before the Lamanites, behold, those two thousand and sixty were firm and undaunted. Yea, and they did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness; yea, and even according to their faith it was done unto them; and I did remember the words which they said unto me that their mothers had taught them. - Alma 57:20-21
- Stand firm and undaunted before the enemy.
- Observe and perform the Lord's commands with exactness.
- Remember what your mother taught you.

Of course Our Savior is the One we all seek to emulate and come to know.

If we are talking about mortals:

1. My Father. Few men can equal him in devotion to Our Savior and His earthly kingdom.
By their fruits ye shall know them. All children are active and married. No divorces. All grandchildren but one is active, one has had a divorce but has remarried a wonderful young lady.

2. Joseph Smith. He is so amazing. I love him.

3. Spencer W. Kimball.-- now there is a rock.

4. Bruce R. McConkie and Neal A. Maxwell-- spiritual studs

5. Gordon B. Hinckley-- like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going----

Your post makes me wonder if the true hopelessness happened when they realized that their fellow countrymen were past ripe for destruction.  Indeed, was physical destruction somehow a blessing thereby putting an end to their continual acts of depravity?

John the Baptist is a great example, he knew his place not taking glory to himself and died for his witness.

Is Church artwork--like from the Gospel Art Kit--copyrighted? Ocan I take tham to Kinko's and make posters?

I think you can print it because if you go to the church website, I think that stuff is available on the site for printing... Just don't use it to create antimormon tracts... that'd probably be bad.

Also Nephi. I like that whenever he had a question or a problem, he took it to the Lord. It helps us realize that we don't have to be perfect and we don't have to "blindly follow" what our leaders are telling us.
