This morning, I accepted an offer to teach at Fort Worth's Applied Learning Center! I've had three interviews there--one with the principal, one with the teaching team, and I taught a demonstration lesson. It's a K-1 position: I'll teach Kindergarten starting in the fall, and then the following...

What helps you build confidence in yourself? WHat helps you keep from comparing yourself to others, but to take strength from your self? --Ray

One thing I fail to do often is to Praise God. The other day my daughter, feeling a momentary flash of elation about an unrelated subject, said that she just wanted to shout out, and then she did start shouting out, "I believe in Jesus Christ! I love Jesus!" My knee-jerk reaction to her jubila...

A couple years ago I started in earnest practicing the Primary songs on the Piano. I started with I am a Child of God, and a couple of easier ones, like Reverently Quietly and Search Ponder and Pray. I'm not really good at piano, and most of my playing ends in disaster, yet I noticed that when I played m...

I was deeply moved by President Faust's address about forgiveness. Im usually pretty good about forgiving and forgetting. I probably forgive a bit too liberally with my children--I sometimes go too fast, probably lessening their opportunities to learn from poor choices. Thankfully, that doe...

I have written on my desk a little note to myself. It says, "Don't forget to ask where to find the ore..." Anyone want to psychoanalyze me? Why would I write this to myself? --Ray PS. Here's a hint: It's motivational and uplifting to me.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a chi...

Last Saturday I took my daughters to three stores to help them find something that I just figured I'd try, called, "Scripture Journals". It was an idea I had, that I hope is an inspired idea, hence I'm sharing it with y'all. Essentially each girl got their own journal--crisp a...

I was called recently to be first counsellor in the Elder's Quorum. For most of my experience in the church I've served in non-leader positions, and not much in priesthood leadership since the Aaronic priesthood. I'm finding this calling very humbling. Since this time I've been t...

I'm not a big poetry guy but sometimes when times are tough this one makes me feel better. I think it talks about the challenges of living in the world and not of the of the world and the purposes of mortality. I've got most of it memorized but it seems like when the challenges are there I can alwa...

One thing I really like about our church is how we learn to serve each other. Of course, service, like everything else, can be taken to extremes or used to bad purposes. But it's nice that we help each other out. I needed a car battery this week, and someone who manages a car parts store used his discou...
