Praise the Lord!

One thing I fail to do often is to Praise God. The other day my daughter, feeling a momentary flash of elation about an unrelated subject, said that she just wanted to shout out, and then she did start shouting out, "I believe in Jesus Christ! I love Jesus!"

My knee-jerk reaction to her jubilation was something of embarrassment at first, but I quickly joined her.  One thing I think Mormons don't necessarily do as much as other Christians faiths is praise the Lord. I sometimes click onto the contemporary christian radio station here, I really like listening to the songs of praise, even though some of the doctrinal points may be slightly askew, I just love their celebration of Christ.

So how do you celebrate the Lord? How do you praise him?

How about praising him here or in public? Is it weird?

I love the book of Isaiah partly because it is so full of praise and declaration of God's power and glory...The Lord is great, and through Him I know that I can do all things. It is his power that founded all the nations and it is his Love that preserves us all...

If the Suns can beat San Antonio tonight, I'll be praising the Lord.

Before the Dixie Chicks went psycho I used to love their song called "Sin Wagon" The chorus was especially fun to sing when out shootin' varmints!

I think the Dixie Chicks have a complete lack of judgment on political issues.  I think they're amazingly talented musicians, and I still listen to them, even "Not Ready to Make Nice," which I realize is another political diatribe, but the music is still really good.

Heh, I have the Dixie Chicks first two albums, but after their mouthing off, I couldn't bring myself to listen anymore.

"Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!"

A friend of mine is from Lubbock and knew Natalie's brothers growing up. I guess they toured around Texas and were quite good themselves. I asked him how she ended up so messed up coming from Texas and all. He said that her family sent her to school on the east coast and that's where she became a flaming liberal. I think the chicks were very tallented and I was a big fan. I really didn't care about there politics but they kept opening their mouths and soon I couldn't hear one of their songs without thinking about them hating Bush. I just wanted to listen to the music. This happens whenever an actor a musician gets so vocal that I can't see past their work anymore without seeing them screaming some insanity. I still listen to the chicks. I think their version of Landslide is extremely good. I also like their use of more traditional instruments and the harmonization. And the only thing I like better than hearing the Sin Wagon is probably is El Paso by Marty Robbins.

I like to sing, "Is this the way to Amarillo? I've been weepin' like a willow. Show me the way to Amarillo, and Sweet Marie that waits for me!"

I'd like to praise The Lord I've never had to suffer the pains of listening to the Dixie Chicks...

Can I get an Amen for the virtues of the belief country music is of the devil, even more so than disco and "christian" rock?

HERESY!!! Country music is all we white folks have to show as part of our cultures. The black community has Rap and Hip hop, Lationos have Mariachi music, Drug Addicts have the current poo they refer to as rock, and white folks have country.

Like Clint Black said, "You were the first thing that I thought of, when I thought I'd drink you off my mind."

I loved the "Home" album...it was exactly the mood I was in when it came out. Too bad it couldn't have been more successful. Angry politics don't do anything in my opinion.

hmm....when I burst into song while we are walking on campus my fiance (who absolutely LOATHES the chicks...but he likes Tim McGraw, so he's still marryable) squeezes my hand a little harder and holds my arm a little stiffer. I wonder if it'd be different if I burst out in hymns? "Praise to the Lord the Almighty the King of Creation!" Maybe he'd join too! He likes how I sing, just not that I always seem to sing in public places, like the Student Union...

Walking on campus you tend to hear so much more filth than goodness being shouted at you. That's why I don't mind the day that the Bible Brethren offer me a Bible on every corner. Next year I want to be sure I have a pack of pass-along cards.

Woo Hoo!  Another Marty Robbins fan!  Cowboy in a Continental Suit, My Woman My Woman My Wife, Ballad of the Alamo.  So many good songs...

There are some really talented artists in all genres of music.  Never had a reason to bash hip hop, country, punk, metal, jazz, rock, classical, etc.  It's not all good, but a lot of it is.  I'll listen to anything performed with talent.

I second what Roper says about talented people in all genres. If they keep their lyrics clean and have a good message, I enjoy a lot of different genres. I am not a big country fan unless it is more cross-over to Popular. I know this sounds contradictory, but I do like some Blue Grass at times.

"Out of the mouth of babes." I think that a pure testimony is so beautiful when it comes from the heart. I was touched by your daughters love for the Lord.
