The Better Presidential Administrations
(Preview)
Roper made the claim that the best administrations in America were those that didn't create as many laws... or some such nonsense. I want him to back that up. So I'm starting this thread. I want to know firstly... 1. What were the "best" presidential administrations? 2. What made...

Legal v. Societal effects on behaviour
(Preview)
This is something that I've been thinking about for a while, and it may be totally obvious or irrelevant to you guys, but someone posted on my blog that we needed more girly stuff in Bountiful, so here I am. =) Anyway, my observation is this: there have been a number of governments in the last 200 year...

Al Gore in front of Congress on Global Warming
(Preview)
That all Gore's a funny guy. Just check out the quote from his speach to congress: "The planet has a fever. If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor. If the doctor says you need to intervene here, you don’t say, 'Well, I read a science fiction novel that tells me it’s not a problem,'...

Advertising on school buses
(Preview)
What do you guys think of school districts selling advertising on school buses? Several school districts in Colorado are doing it. I think one charges $600 a month. There had been a proposal in that district to charge the kids a fee to ride the bus, but that was quickly shot down.

How We Vote
(Preview)
I'm sorry if this is totally redundant. I haven't been here that long, so that's my excuse. As for the presidential election coming up, would you be willing to vote for someone even if you feel your vote is "wasted"? Some people think Ross Perot running gave Clinton...

More laws or fewer laws?
(Preview)
A comment of Ray's on another thread got me thinking. He mentioned that your best chance for getting your opinions codified into law is to vote for one of the major parties. That got me thinking - in most cases I don't want my opinions codified into law. In most cases I want there to be fewer laws....

How Rare is Freedom?
(Preview)
Over the course of known and recorded human history, how rare is freedom? What nations had it, and for how long and to what scale? What were the limitations of that freedom within those realms? I think the Romans had a form of freedom, as long as they were conquering their neighbors, but there were huge p...

Not too long ago I was listening to Michael Reagan on the radio lamenting that everyone is moving their primary to February. If you knew the Democrats would win....
(Preview)
There is a school of thought among some online political commentators that it would be a good thing for the Dems to win in 2008, because then the War on Terror would become a bipartisan war, and the Democrats would have to start getting serious about it. I am not sure I agree with this, but if the Dems had t...
