I have seen this same article in some other places too. Now, why does this have any significance. Are we judged by what our ancestors have done?

Sounds like Fox News is a front to sell the book about mormon polygamy.

I would expect something like this from the Clinton News Network.

Everyone that believes in Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as prophets have polygamy in their religous background.

Of the 4 top Republican candidates, Giuliani, Gingrich, McCain and Romney, Mitt is the only one who has had only one wife.

Great point, Mahroni. What an interesting precedent that now we're digging up dirt about the ancestors of the candidates. It is frightening in a way, for no man or woman can control that sort of thing.

 Psst, I've heard that Ray lives with several females and is only married to one of them! Can you imagine!

BTW, for everyone reading, that statement, while accurate, is very misleading. He does live with several females other than his wife - they are his daughters. But any fact can be twisted to sound salacious and/or scandalous.

We could also disqualify most americans who come from Southern states as slave owners or sympathizers with the confederacy... and hey! It'd be as timely.

Well, no one should ever listen to Rev. Al Sharpton anymore... cuz it was just found out that his ancestor was owned by a relative of the ancestor of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond.

Or actually... that is probably gonna give him more clout now as a civil rights activist... 'My family has been fighting oppression for generations against devout segregationists and bigots and hatemongers like Strom Thurmond, for his family used to own my ancestors...' 

Of course, something like this is only bad because it is a Republican candidate who also probably wins hands down as being the most moral person in the whole field... The fact that JFK and his brothers got into power despite their father and grandfather having made the family fortune by being rum runners and violating the federal, state, and constitutional laws in the process is a quaint humorous side note...

p.s. If I remember Church history correctly, there was a time when any male member of the Church were not allowed to hold public office simply because of the teaching and practice of polygamy.  I think they may have even been refused the right to vote whenever possible.  So, it just goes to show the ignorance of people reporting on this sort of stuff...

Yea I saw this piece in my local rag also and was not surprised. I think we will see more of these cooky mormon pieces as we get closer to the primary. I particularly like the quote about the great great grandmother pacing the floor in tears thinking about her husband with the other women. It has nothing to do with Mit but this is the type of stuff we will keep seeing as the silly season gears up. I think they will probably become even worse in some cases. A lot of the public is too stupid to see beyond this and this I fear will make Mit have to work even harder to get his message out.

Hillary Clinton's parents were Republicans and she had ancestors who owned slaves.

For goodness sakes, how far back do we go?

Guiliani is a wife cheater, McCain is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Yes but Barak is black so you can't talk about him and Hillary already is laying out rules about what is fair game and what is not.  Of course you can't question McCain on military matters because he was a POW.  This whole process is one big carnival sideshow.  Unfortunately, Romney is going to be portrayed as the Mormon Nut Job descended from Polygamists until southern evangelicals can't stomach him.  One of the guys that works for me actually likes Romney but even agrees with me that the Mormon thing is going to be hard for many people to get past.

Mitt Romney comes in a poor second at best in terms of values that should be important to LDSs.  Mainstream media has reported on his criticism of the Boy Scouts of America for refusing to accept gays as Scout leaders, on his support of pro-gay programs, and other actions that demonstrate disdain for certain principles which Apostles and Prophets have admonished LDSs to support.

The only ancestor of mine that I know had more than one wife was Isaac Morley... he is my
4th Great Grandfather.

I have only two polygamist ancestors but then my mom's family is non-LDS.  One third Great Grandfather had 7 wives (I'm a descendant through the first one) and 40 kids and another had 2 wives (I'm a descendant throught he second).

It's ancient history almost so I don't think a polygamist ancestry will have much impact on Romney.

No polygamists in my line at least as far back as I can trace it to the 17th century. Of course there were plenty of philanderers and others in the picture. Can I count them?

I'm probably related to all of ya, if you have any LDS pioneer ancestry in SE Idaho...  polygamists all over several lines of ancestry on me da's side 4 and 5 generations back, including my surname great-great grandfather...

Maybe Romney's polygamist ancestry will have little (or in all honesty should have nil) impact on his qualifications, but I'm sure some nut job is gonna find reason for discrediting him by showing that his father was born in Mexico...  "Y'all can't be havin' no Marmon boy be Presidunt, speshully if'ns his pa were some illegal alien borned in Mexico... He*%, if'n you looks at histury, them Mexicans thought them Marmon gringos wuz illegal aliens and kicked 'em all out, so see he ain't got no allegiance to no ones but that Marmon cult..."
