Not really a preparedness issue...

Hey, I have a question...

What do you do to get bath towels and dish towels to lose the stink they typically get?  We wash them and dry them like the rest of the laundry, but get them wet again, and it is as smelly as if they had been wet and mildewy for a month...  It is really disgusting and annoying to keep getting a "clean" towel only to smell that stuff as soon as you dry your hair and know that smell is rubbing off on your body as you dry off after a shower...

Advice anyone?  How do you launder these sort of things and actually get rid of whatever is causing the smell?

Vinegar. Put vinegar in the rinse cycle of your wash.

How will that help?  I've never thought of that... white vinegar or apple cider vinegar (or would you recommend something a little more exotic like red wine vinegar, tarragon vinegar, basalmic vinegar, or malt vinegar?  )?  How much?

We've tried a little bleach in the water, we've even run bleach water by itself through the washing machine.

I'm not sure exactly why it helps, other than the fact that it also unlocks soaps and things that don't completely wash out with plain water.

About 1/2 cup of white vinegar.

I'll advise the Mrs. and we'll give it a try.

Here's hoping no more whenever we use a towel!

I love it when I give out advice I can't explain from my guru mountaintop and it gets corroborated.

It helps confirm those other faith-based things that I do because they work, even though I don't know why.
