I really wasn't interested in changing my avatar, but then my brother showed me this picture. It is hilariously funny. Partly because I believe in the saying that when you're voting for the lesser of two evils, you're still voting for evil.

I had a "Cthulu Saves" bumper sticker during my inactive years. And every decade or so, I drop whatever I'm doing and fly to Washington DC and draw a chalk pentagon around the pentagon - just to make sure it stays put.
Anyway - any die hard Bloom County fans out there that remember my avatar?

C'thulu is a pulp horror creation of HP Lovecraft. (Inspiration for the Pak'm'rah in Babylon 5, btw, and the Mind Flayer in Dungeons and Dragons...) Essentially it is the horror in the unkonwn, just to consider it or say its name is to bring upon you a horrible death or insanity. Check it out on Wikipedia sometime... it's big on the internet... usually visually associated with a squid of some kind... cuz squids are very scary.

I guess I'd better drop a note here because in another thread Coco asked:
Is that a freakin' half-naked baby in the SNOW?!?!
No, it is not. Firstly, 2 years old is more of a toddler than baby. Secondly, that ain't snow. It's sand. Ftr, toddler has a nudity streak, so we're lucky he's still in pants.

I assume so. I wasn't there. MrHic knows the drill, though.

As Hiccups mentioned in another post we use to live next to a sculpture park in Loveland, CO. Every year they would have a sculpture show at the park, and most of the displays where locked inside a tent where you had to pay $5 to see anything.
This piece was out in the open. I should have gotten the artists' name to see if they had a dragon to go along with the knight.

Of course, but the picture is deceptive in that is looks nice and warm when in fact the sand was freezing in the shade. I think at one point my feet started going numb watching the kids play.
The fun things to do is "snow board" down the dunes, or run and jump down them. Not many places you can jump over a 12' cliff and not get hurt.

I was in the mood to change my avatar, so here's the new one.
This is by Lawren Harris, one of my favorite painters and a member of the Group of Seven - Canadian landscape artists from the 1920's. I love his stuff. It's stylized and very cool, and I plan on making some wall quilts from his more abstract Rocky Mountain paintings.
Lawren Harris made several trips out west to the Rockies, and painted a lot of the mountains in my neck of the woods. This one is called "Mount Robson from the Northeast." Here's how it really looks:
I haven't had the chance to hike Mt. Robson myself, but my brothers have.
edited 'cuz I figured how to insert my picture. Yay!

No need for that. There's a lot to read around here.
