My Status

With sporadic internet access I haven't been around much recently.

So, I am still looking for a full time job. It's still really tough with a bunch of experienced computer programmers looking for work. Most of the jobs that are available I am either over or under qualified. I am thinking of applying for a position as a Math/Science teacher at a charter school.

I've been thinking of starting my own business, moving to Texas were business is still good, or both. There's also the option of trying to get into Grad School, however there are some hoops to jump through for that.

On the positive side I have had plenty of time to work on some of my own projects, and attend some of the Tea Parties nearby. Hopefully we will be able to have some influence on the direction of this country.

It's good to try to influence things. And I hope you find work. There are so many good people without work right now. I'm very blessed to still be employed despite the current economy, but I realize that I haven't earned that blessing in any way, that the Lord has merely chosen that path for me and my family.
Still, though, I feel your pain because I did go through a period of unemployment last year.

Thanks for the support.

Now back to finding work or something. :)

Still unemployed, still searching. I expanded my search to any tech or math jobs in Utah, I then expanded it to across the USA. Things haven't gotten any better in 14 months, so now I am thinking of applying for jobs in Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.

I feel like giving up trying. There are days where I don't see any reason to get out of bed. My councilor that I've been meeting with at LDS Family Services for a few months has helped though.

Furthermore it turns out I will never get the money I am owed at my last job at sensory sweep. I story came out about that fairly recently Sensory Sweep Shortchange

Since I felt like I wasn't doing anything i applied to an online college for another degree. However it still doesn't feel right given that I already have a bachelors degree, and I will have to pay the loan on this one off later anyway. Classes are going to be starting soon.

Don't take it personally, PT.

Here's a snippet about the state of our union.

In a powerful essay in The Atlantic, Don Peck reports that last November nearly a fifth of all men between 25 and 54 did not have jobs, the highest figure since the labor bureau began counting in 1948. We are either at or about to reach a historical marker: for the first time there will be more women in the work force than men...

Hey PT, have you considered teaching high school math? There's a nationwide shortage of advanced math teachers. In Texas, since you already have a B.S. in math, you can do an intensive summer-long program for teacher cert and then begin teaching in the fall. Don't know if other states have similar programs. At the big urban schools in TX, teachers start at around $40K. Plus, there are government programs for student loan repayment for math and science teachers.

Things have just started to get better. I have two phone interviews this week. One for a job here in Utah, and another in Florida. We will see where this goes.

Thanks Roper for the heads up on the teaching opportunities. It seemed like everything I looked at required at least a masters. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong spots.
