I got the following from the Constitution party not too long ago:
Or… There’s More Than One Way To Skin A Career Politician!
Dear Constitution Party Friends and Supporters,
Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin and his running mate Darrell Castle wound up with close to 179,000 votes, showing even with no ads and comparatively little media attention, the message of liberty resonated with many.
The tally was a 24% increase over the party’s vote total in 2004. However, this year we were not on the ballot in California or Pennsylvania, and in 2004 those states accounted for 33,000 votes. The Baldwin/Castle ticket even grabbed 3,418 write-in votes in Texas, the highest for any write-in candidate in that state.
Despite the disappointing result of the race for the White House, we have reason to look on the bright side. We may not have elected a Constitution Party president or captured seats in Congress, but we have made very encouraging inroads. CP candidates have made huge strides and some can even be credited with ousting liberal incumbents from office simply because they decided to run against them.
Take the three term U.S. Senator from Oregon, Gordon Smith, for instance, who actually lost his bid for re-election because of our candidate Dave Brownlow!
Brownlow spent no money, did no advertising and wound up with 6% of the vote - more than double the number of votes Senator Smith lost by.
In a tight race such as this we see that our presence can really have an effect and show the liberal Republicans that we are here and ready to challenge them. In the end, the GOP and the Smith campaign spent millions on an ad campaign that included TV and direct mail hit pieces smearing the Constitution Party candidate and mentioning him by name.
It’s good news for the Constitution Party when a liberal incumbent US Senator and his major party spend money directly attacking one of our candidates. It shows our significance, that their polls are showing we are taking votes from them, and it results in many more people hearing of the Constitution Party alternative.
David went up against Goliath and showed that liberal Republicans have seen their last days. We saw it with McCain and we’re seeing it state by state as well.
Janine Hansen, a candidate from the Independent American Party of Nevada - which is the name of the Constitution Party in that state - was is in a two-way race for state senate with incumbent Dean Rhodes, a moderate Republican. Hansen pulled in more than 30% of the vote in that race.
There are a number of Constitution Party candidates with impressive percentages well into the 20% range, which is exceptional given the media blackout on third party candidates and lack of funding.
In addition to larger percentages of votes, 20 states will remain ballot qualified meaning fewer time-consuming and costly ballot-access campaigns will be necessary going forward. This is a 33% increase over 2004.
Those gains give us a head start on building the party and gaining momentum.
By working now at the state and local levels we can get a jump start on the very real possibility that we can see Constitution Party candidates elected to state and yes, even national offices during the next election cycle.
The choice is clear. We can hand the keys to this republic over to globalists or we can fight them every step of the way!
Are you ready to rumble?
Yours for Liberty,
James N. Clymer
National Chairman

I am quite disappointed in the small % of votes garnered by the Constitution Party, especially in Utah. Having recently lived a year and a half in SLC, during which time I associated on occasions with a number of Constitution Party candidates in both the 2006 and the 2008 elections, and discussed politics with many others, I have concluded that the vote count for the CP was small for several reasons:
* PR was inadequate * The media blackballed the CP just as it did Ron Paul * LDS voters are no more and maybe even less politically astute than most Americans, and seem to look for an LDS leader to follow like a prophet * Huntsman and Romney swayed thousands to support McCain * The real McCain, who could have been badly swiftboated, was never revealed * Many voters voted for the "lesser of two evils" instead of for principle
That's real good that they helped elect Obama, and defeated Gordon Smith, who might be a liberal Republican, but wouldn't have been part of the Democratic majority in Congress.

I have yet to meet a real supporter of the Constitution Party that believes there is any significant, long term difference in the goals and intents of Obama and McCain. Their intended ways and means appear to be different, but I believe they are both beholden to ultimately the same latter-day gadiantons, whose goal is creating conditions in America that will make Americans more willing to be subservient to a regional (NAU) and then a world socialist dictatorship (NWO).
What many saw in McCain during his run for the presidency is a lot different than the man I voted for the first time he ran for the Senate and then tried with many others to recall him. The media has covered-up for him well. He could be "swiftboated" more than John Kerry ever was 4 years ago. One needs to be very careful of the picture the media paints of any presidential and congressional candidates.
You know, increasing votes by such a large margin over last election, and getting more votes than other third parties, I think that the message is resonating with more and more people. Of course, given how bad the major parties have gotten, I would have liked much better numbers for the CP as well.

I am not a supporter of the Constitution Party. I'm a supporter of winning elections. We can only stop the erosion of the Constitution if us conservatives are in a position of power. Less than three percent of the vote hardly qualifies as such. So, if not very many people think that Obama is any different than McCain would've been--I suppose you're ready to explain that to the millions of aborted babies that will be added to the millions already aborted? One of Obama's main stated goals is to make all abortion a privacy issue instead of a human life issue. As far as "painting a picture" of candidates, and your swift boat comment--I'd like to hear reliable sources with clear cut evidence that what you're saying is true. I'm always skeptical of any political candidate, but I also don't convict without strong evidence.

We can only stop the erosion of the Constitution if us conservatives are in a position of power. That's the crux of it, isn't it? But the problem was, there wasn't a major party conservative presidential candidate in this election. So I had to go to a third party to find a conservative candidate. As you point out, just winning isn't enough. A conservative needs to win. Otherwise, you could have voted for Obama and been on the winning side. I don't think it's excessive to say that McCain is not a conservative. After all, he was for most of what Obama said he was for, just not as much. McCain was for a cap and spend economic model, just not as extreme a one as Obama is. Conservative used to mean small government, controlled spending. The "conservative" Bush pushed through a bailout plan (that both Obama and McCain were for) that authorized an amount greater than the entire budget for the department of health and human services for a year. That's the department that does Medicare and other "inexpensive" programs.

At this point in my life I am a supporter of certain principles much more that a supporter of winning elections. In my running for US Congress, winning was out of the question. My main, perhaps only purpose was to awaken people to the "awful situation" the Lord told Moroni would exist because of a "secret combination" that SHALL be among us. (Thats the one Ezra Taft Benson said was not conspiracy theory, but a "conspiracy fact.") In that endeavour I had much greater success than I expected.
Re. the concern about my opinion of Senator McCain, much of my knowledge of him has been accumulated over the past 21+ years residence in Arizona. As with other persons who I believe are part of or involved with that "secret combination" that a Prophet warned us about just over 20 years ago, the information available to all of us is generally a combination of truth, ½ truth, error, and lies, all flavoured by omission of certain facts. In putting together the pieces of the puzzle I have to work with, I found certain pieces fit together better than others, leading me to conclusions that others may not like.
