Union gets workers fired, then protests their firing

About 100 muslim workers at a meat packing plant in Greeley have been fired after walking off the job because they weren't given extra break time for prayers and an altered lunch schedule for breaking their ramadan fast.
The ironic thing about this is the company originally promised them that time, but the company, Swift, had to back off that promise when the union threatened to sue. See, the non-muslim workers on the second shift didn't like eating lunch at 7:30pm instead of 8:15pm. So the company backed down from their promise after the union threatened to sue.
When the company didn't keep their promise, many workers walked off the job. About a hundred didn't return when warned and were fired. Now the union, which induced them to walk off the job by forcing the company to not give them their breaks, is threatening to sue because they were fired.
I think the workers at that plant would be much better off without the union.

Not sure about individual workers, but economists measure the impact unions have on the economy in terms of the damage they do.

I do hope that Colorado "Right to work" law passes allowing workers to not be forced to join unions when they accept a job somewhere. I've yet to hear a good explanation for the modern continuance of unions. When workers were locked in a second floor room with no windows, then there was a use for unions. But that doesn't happen nowadays, and wouldn't even if unions went away.
