Yesterday I made some cornbread in my dutch oven. I'm fairly new to dutch oven cooking, but I managed not to mess up the cornbread. But dutch ovens lend themselves to cornbread, because for a good cornbread you need a lot of heat and a heavy iron thing to cook it in. So I used a lot of coals. I didn't even have to wait too long. It's all part of my plan to actually know how to use my food storage. Granted, cornbread uses eggs, but as long as I can keep my chickens alive and unstolen I should always have fresh eggs even in a food storage situation. In our ward they always prepare cobbler in dutch ovens at campouts, and especially at the father-son campout. I may have to try that next.
