Dutch oven cooking

Yesterday I made some cornbread in my dutch oven. I'm fairly new to dutch oven cooking, but I managed not to mess up the cornbread. But dutch ovens lend themselves to cornbread, because for a good cornbread you need a lot of heat and a heavy iron thing to cook it in. So I used a lot of coals. I didn't even have to wait too long.
It's all part of my plan to actually know how to use my food storage. Granted, cornbread uses eggs, but as long as I can keep my chickens alive and unstolen I should always have fresh eggs even in a food storage situation.
In our ward they always prepare cobbler in dutch ovens at campouts, and especially at the father-son campout. I may have to try that next.

Mmm. I've never tried cornbread, but cobbler is divine. And potatoes.

Sounds great! I'm going to bring our Dutch ovens camping this summer and practice, practice, practice. thumbsup.gif
