I think I've asked this question before in another poll, but the question came up again in my "which republican would you not vote for" poll. So I'm beginning a new poll on the question. So, in a hypothetical lineup between the worst possible (in your opinion) democratic candidate and worst possible (in your opinion) republican candidate, how would you vote? For instance, if I understand TitusTodd's position correctly, his nightmare lineup would be Hillary Clinton vs. Ron Paul.

I would be really tempted to hold my nose and vote for the Republican, but I think I'd have to give it careful thought and prayer first. I doubt I would vote third party, but if I was led that way I would.

Yeah, I'd vote for whomever was most likely to continue the war on terror and staff the courts with non-liberals. I guess that's a Republican, although isn't one of them against the war?

Arbilad got my nightmare scenario correct. I can't say how I would vote in that situation at this time other than that I would not vote for either Hillary or Ron Paul. A viable third party candidate may be available at election time but right now that candidate does not exist. I would vote for a viable third party candidate knowing they wouldn't win.
I guess you are making me think, Arbilad. My initial reply was a gut reaction. However, my fear about a third party vote would be that it would be taking a vote from the Republican side, giving the Democrats the advantage. There is virtually no chance a third party candidate would win so I have to think about which candidate would do the least amount of damage to our country. That may be Ron Paul. Hillary would probably have Congress to help her get court nominees through and other agenda items (as the balance of power in Congress will probably remain with the Democrats). Ron Paul would have to contend with his "fellow" Republicans and the Democrats. I don't know what kind of court nominee(s) he would offer up but they may be a better choice than what a Democrat would put forth.
Any guesses as to who Ron Paul would pick as his running mate?
Thankfully, I do not believe my nightmare scenario is possible so I won't have to make that difficult decision.
I'm not a big third party guy. Never voted third party or really considered it but if I felt that both the repub and dem candidate were that bad I probably would do it just to withhold my support. It would have to be someone seriously disturbing though on the repub side.
There really isn't a viable candidate on the Democrat side, though Bill Richardson is the closest. Now if Evan Bayh of Indiana had run, then that would be something.
So I am sure to vote the Republican. Of course, if it was Ron Paul or John McCain--and it won't be either of them--then it would be hard.
Romney or Guiliani I could live with.
