Cute chicks

I got my baby chicks in the mail today. They're incredibly cute, and they're already eating and drinking well. We have the heat lamp and all that stuff to keep them happy and healthy. The barred rocks are a nice black color, the araucanas are brown with interesting markings, and the rare breed (we don't know which yet) is a bright yellow.

And by the way, I'm talking about baby chickens.

Awww... fer CUUUUUTE!! Baby chicks are so fun. We really handled our first ones a lot. Our 5yo was about 2 then and I walked into the dining room (we had them set up on the table at first) to find her squeezing one, totally excited-like. I grabbed her and the chick limply fell to the bottom of the box. But, with a little "HEY!" in its ear and a thump on the rear, it came back from its near-death experience rather well. biggrin.gif

BTW, arbi, how old are your kids? I bet they love them. (I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him and love him...)

So, do you know where you'll chop their little headdies off, so they can run around spurtin' blood everywhere without making a big mess somewhere you don't want it?

My kids would love little chicks... most likely to death... :)

My boys love visting the baby chicks at Grandma's farm. Heck, they even loved helping to muck out the barn. weirdface.gif

The chick is in the mail? How does that work? I got plants in the mail and thought that was weird enough.

These are day old chicks (or were when we received them). Just before hatching, a chick absorbs the yolk in the egg, thereby allowing it to stay alive without eating for a while after birth. When they get to the post office, they call you and you go pick them up. They don't deliver chicks to your door.

The cats love to sit on top of the perforated lid where the chicks are and watch them.

BTW, my kids are 2 and 12. They do love them. The 2 year old wants to love them to death.

Still boggling about mail order chicks. Apparently I have lost touch with my farmer roots.

Does it bother the chicks to have the cat sitting on their box?

Gosh, Janey... all this lawyering must've really got you out of touch with nature. Come down from that Ivory Tower, NOW!
