"Carbon offsets" don't really work

According to this article, most "carbon offset" payments really are a very small portion of the budget of a greenhouse gas reducing project, such as a windfarm. But after making their token contribution, they claim 100% of the projected greenhouse gas reductions. So, in other words, it's a sham.

Now, now, Arbi... you forget the liberal philosophy: "It's the thought that counts... " the plan doesn't actually have to have any real world benefit as long as the intentions are there...

Welcome to the table Arb. I've been saying offsets were a sham for years. It's a way for the elites and rich to get away with poluting while the rest of us have to navigate the archaic maze of regulations and requirements.

Is my 80 mpg scooter a carbon offset? Maybe I can get some federal funding to help me repair it!
