This link talks about a new form of biofuel that's essentially a weed that some farmers cultivate in Africa as fencing on their land, Apparently the seeds have a lot of oil in them that could be used in a diesel engine.

I thought the last paragraph was quite sobering... considering the sudden increase that would occur in demand, nations that attempted to produce the substance would most likely be pushed out of the picture in a race to get the most volume in production...

Sometimes I think the world's demand for energy is like a great unquenchable demon serpent or many-headed dragon that just gobbles up everything, it breathes money... and crushes anyone unwilling to worship it...

There are several other plants that scientists are looking to for biofuels including Switch Grass. Unfortunately, the ethenol plants are tooled for corn at this point and there is a lot of politics involved which may hamper any changes from corn.
