{rant mode} Amazing, the amount of half truth Reid is spouting.  He claims the troop surge plan was solely Bush's idea.  What?!  I thought that was one of the recommendations made by the "Iraq Study Group"...

He then goes on to make the comparison to Vietnam... okay, you are saying that Pres. Johnson caused that fiasco by "surging".  Okay, but aren't you forgetting the reality was that he didn't let the commanders on the ground fight the war the way it should have been done (total war)... and what you are proposing is the exact same thing, but instead of the Commander in Chief being in charge, it is going to be you and Madame Pelosi and yo' possee's who are gonna micromanage it... you say we have a vested interest in a free democratic Iraq, but at the same time you say we have no business "policing" a "civil war" (which is not really a civil war but lawless elements causing problems backed by other nations that are more than willing to let someone else take the risk of grabbing the snake)... so back to the Vietnam comparison, Mr. Reid, weren't we there "policing" a real civil war?  How about Korea, weren't we there "policing" a real civil war?

Sorry Mr. Reid, but the rhetoric you and your friends are spouting is the real reason we are bogged down (if in fact we really are).  Because the Commander in Chief is interested in not upsetting people too much, he has not felt free to conduct the war from day one the way it should have been.  So, who is at fault?  All y'alls or him?  You all voted to grant him permission to declare war, did you not?  Now stop playing the part of a european sycophant and get behind the Commander in Chief so he will have a free hand to win a decisive victory and prevent what you are saying is inevitable due to pussyfooting around.

Who has really betrayed the military (and hence the goal and our nation and the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and people yearning for freedom from terrorist tyranny everywhere)?

You as a Senator or Representative do not represent all the people of America... get that through your head.  You represent only the people in your district or state in theory, and then in reality, only that consituency which voted for you, because you reward those who vote for you and pretty much ignore those who voted against you.  The American people are not that dumb...

His plans do not have to mirror your proposals... that is, well, what being Commander in Chief entails, don't you think?  In this role, he has the right to ask you for advice, but that is not an obligation to take counsel from you.  This is wartime, and you have the obligation to stand behind the Chief Executive and Commander in Chief of this nation.  Not try to take away from his power.  Tell us, would you have done the same thing to FDR?

You still have not said what this "new path in Iraq" is... you just want everyone to rally behind you and Madame Pelosi.  Sorry, but I don't see you holding any banner, let alone anything even close that says what Captain Moroni's said...
