The Church wants to hear your opinion

Hi all, I recently received an email asking me to forward this to good people, so here it is: an opportunity to review the website that the church intends to use as a replacement for Temple Ready. It's designed to reduce duplication and to help you find cousins who are working on similar research. One beta tester called it The One True Database. It shows you everyone - deceased only - that they have records of in pedigree format, or family group sheet if you prefer.

Email this letter to those who may be interested in evaluating the new FamilySearch:   Dear LDS Church Members and Friends,   The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is developing a new version of the FamilySearch.org website. This new website will help members identify ancestors, link them to families, and provide temple ordinances for them.   Can you volunteer an hour of time to help evaluate this new website? Do you know someone else who might be interested? We need feedback to make the final website as easy and enjoyable to use as possible. We are especially interested in feedback from individuals who are new to family history work.   Anyone over age 18 interested in participating in this evaluation should go to:   http://labs.familysearch.org/temple/static/signup.htm   Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm. We greatly value your time and opinion.   Sincerely,   FamilySearch Evaluation Team Family and Church History Department The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

I tried to go where you said and it didn't work.

Looked like a site where you could get a virus or a worm or worse.

The URL may not be working, but if you go to the root website it's definitely the familysearch website.

Ok, I tried the url and it didn't work for me, either, so I emailed the church's support system and received the following email:

Dear Sister,
I just checked the URL and it worked fine. I'm enclosing a procdure to
clear cookies and temp files from your computer. You can pass this
information on to your friends and then see if you all can get into the
url. If you still have a problem with the link in the e-mail, just copy it
and paste it into the Address box. We have tried from several different
computers here and been successful from all of them. If the procedure
and the copy/paste don't clear it for you, and/or there is an error
message, please contact again per instructions further down.

I'm sending you the procedures for several different configurations on
computers because we don't know for sure which IE browser or operating
system you are using.

Internet Explorer 6

Start Internet Explorer.
On the menu bar, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Cookies, click
OK, and then click OK again.
Note: To delete individual cookies in Internet Explorer 6, follow the
instructions for Internet Explorer 5, 5.01, and 5.5.

Internet Explorer 5, 5.01, and 5.5

Start Internet Explorer.
On the menu bar, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Settings.
Click View Files.
On the View menu, click Details.
Click the Internet Address column header, and then find the Internet
addresses of the cookie files. Each file begins with Cookie:."
Click a cookie file to highlight it, and then press Delete. If you are
prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes. Repeat
this step for each cookie file.
To Delete Cookies for Internet Explorer 4.x for Windows 95, 98 or NT
4.0:

Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and click the General tab.

This should resolve your concerns. If you have any further questions,
please contact us by e-mail or by using our toll-free telephone number,

you find it necessary to contact us about this matter again.

Oh yeah... that is typical level 1 (and sometimes level 2) IT helpdesk support for ya... it is your fault as the end user... rolleyes

At least you didn't have to speak to "Andy" over in India to be asked if your computer has been turned on...

Well, thanks for trying anyway, historian! smile.gif They did understand that it was happening to a number of other folks on a number of other machines with a variety of browsers and OS's the first time they tried to link to the site, didn't they?

Ok, folks, so very sorry that there is a problem, but if you'll call or email them, they really will be eager to help.

No, there's no chance of getting transferred to India. This is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that's offering the site, and they use missionaries, not outsourcing.

If you're having a problem, then how many others are, too, and so they need to hear that from you. They've heard from this one cranky old lady so much that they probably discount messages from me.

Thanks Bok... but I'm still wondering...

I went through and gave all of those answers and no one e-mailed me back.

I wondered for awhile there if it was going to ask me to give up my first born .smile.gif

You may be right, Mahona... you never know what to trust on the internet, and the link is currently down.

The link worked fine for me today. I did the survey (looks and sounds legit). I'm probably too familiar with the process. You're probably an ideal candidate, Ray.
