Up with McCarthyism

Like probably everyone else here, I was told for years about what a bad man McCarthy was, and how he looked for something that wasn't there (communists in government). It turns out that there were communists in high position, and McCarthy didn't abuse his power. I highly recommend Ann Coulter's book on the subject, but here is an opinion piece on the subject:
Up with McCarthy

McCarthy

McCarthy served as an intelligence officer for a bomber squadron stationed in the Solomon Islands, and also risked his life by volunteering to fly in the tail-gunner's seat on many combat missions. Critics of McCarthy who ridicule him about the number of combat missions he flew miss an important point.  He didn't have to fly any.

Admiral Chester Nimitz, commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet, issued the following citation regarding the service of Captain McCarthy:

'For meritorious and efficient performance of duty as an observer and rear gunner of a dive bomber attached to a Marine scout bombing squadron operating in the Solomon Islands area from September 1 to December 31, 1943. He participated in a large number of combat missions, and in addition to his regular duties, acted as aerial photographer. He obtained excellent photographs of enemy gun positions, despite intense anti-aircraft fire, thereby gaining valuable information which contributed materially to the success of subsequent strikes in the area. Although suffering from a severe leg injury, he refused to be hospitalized and continued to carry out his duties as Intelligence Officer in a highly efficient manner. His courageous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the naval service.'

Satan and his "hollywood" minions will continue to rail against anyone who dares to molest and make afraid.

Ever wonder what sent McCarthy into orbit against communists?
McCarthy himself attributes his first blast off to May 22, 1949, the night that former Secretary of Defense James Forrestal was found dead on the ground outside Bethesda Naval Hospital, where he had been committed.  Strong evidence indicated he had been thrown from an upper story window, not jumped as was reported.  Forrestal had threatened to expose evidences of communists in various elements of the US FedGov.
Policies and actions of Americans in FedGov, including General George C. Marshall's actions and policies had helped the communists expand their sphere of control in the USSR, Europe, China, and Korea.   I'm old enough that I remember these disasters quite well, and even as a 6-7 grader I questioned what was going on.  McCarthy blamed the fall of China and other countries to the communists since WW2 on "the traitorous actions" of the State Department's "bright young men," and he mentioned specifically John S. Service, Gustavo Duran, Mary Jane Keeney, Julian Wadleigh, Dr. Harlow Shapley, Alger Hiss, and Dean Acheson.
As I have reviewed the reaction of State Department and other elements of the FedGov, I note there was a similar response of smoke screens, lies, reversing of testimony, etc. occurred during the investigations (9 or 10, depending on how one counts them) of the Pearl Harbour disaster, with which I am more familiar, and which implicated General Marshall and even FDR, among others high in Govt. and the military.

As a pre-teen I was struck by what then thought were mistakes, blunders, bad judgement, and attempts to cover for those blunders. But high government officials kept right on making more mistakes in the same consistent direction (leftward), creating more threats to our freedoms (whats left of them - but thats another discussion) .  It seemed our presumed national leaders never learned anything from the blunders of the past.  The betrayals keep accelerating and getting broader.  To my satisfaction McCarthy was corret enough that Americans should have supported his efforts.  But they were blinded by the smoke screens and listened to the wrong people and have paid the price.
