Water purification, preparedness

How many are really prepared as regards water? I was at church one night when home making was going on (I am not politically correct, I try not to say enrichment), and it was on 72 hour kits. Not one person, but my family, had any sort of water purification. Maybe a couple had those iodine tablets, but most likely not and they are not that great anyway.

To me, water purification is the most important thing to have, a firearm second. This is a crucial part of a 72 hour kit and for staying at home. You cannot carry enough water with you for a 72 hour kit. If you need to replenish your supply at home and the water plant is no longer working or the water is contaminated, what do you do?

We have a Katadyn Combi filter for home and 72 hour kit, and I will soon have one for my own get home bag I keep in my car. With these three and a spare filter, we have the ability to purify about 40,000 gallons of water. I also have coffee filters to filter sediment from the water before running it through the purifier to extend the life of the filter.

Anyone else have this crucial item? If not, get it. I got mine at Emergency Essentials, about the best price I found for what I have. It is very portable.

I have water stored, but I don't have a filtering plan. It's a Katadyn combi filter? You can carry this with you if you want? And coffee filters...

I need to take this more seriously. This is crucial. And practice during camping trips.

Yes, the Katadyn Combi. It is small and portable. You could go to some farm pond and run the water through it and then drink. The coffee filters just help remove the sediment and dirt, helps keep the filter clean. There are additional charcoal packs you can get, they help remove pesticides, benzine, chemicals.

I have a Katadyn Hiker Pro that we keep in the 72-hr kit and use on backpacking trips. I love this filter.
