I noticed that this has been discussed on the board lately, so I thought I'd create a poll and see the result.

It seems like every day or two, I hear some news anchor/reporter talk about how this or that might affect the elections. Commentators have a lot to say about it, too, but they all have different opinions, so frankly, I'm not at all sure how things will play out and what the deciding issues will turn out to be. I enjoy politics, but it takes me awhile to sort things out, it seems!

I have no idea about how to predict what is going to happen. The MSM makes so much about Bush's poor approval rating. I find myself skeptical of those polls, frankly. Polls don't always predict voting, as we found out in 2000.
I expect that the Republicans may lose some ground, but not the majority. But it's a flat out guess. Sometimes I think it's preferrable to have one of the legislative houses controlled by the opposite party. I'm not crazy about either party when they have too much power.
So, does anyone think the Foley stink will have an effect on the overall election? Will it be the nail in the Republicans' coffin?
I predict that it will cause them to lose his seat but not effect the rest of the seats that much. Why? Because we have a tendency to look at only our own congressman and vote on him not the rest of the bunch. When it comes down to it, all politics is local. I think whatever seats the repubs lose this election would have been lost with or without Foley. Most people tend to see the congress as a bunch of crooks all except for their guy. Otherwise, why would some of those idiots keep getting reelected?
