The Bountiful City Skyline

Hey Arb... Board Master,

Don't you have a better picture of Bountiful? Perhaps of the Bountiful Temple? I admit this one's kinda cool, but difficult to recognize... 'sides, I was married in the Bountiful Temple. :)

:D

Find me one that's not copyrighted, or that allows uses like as a forum banner, and I'll change. I decided to use this since, although it is copyrighted, the copyright owner has allowed the use of the photograph in all circumstances.

Sheesh, Ray!  Picky, picky.

I was actually coming on this thread to thank whoever put it up and to say how beautiful that picture was.  It made me gasp a little when I saw it.  Of course, I live in Kansas where we don't have mountains, so it's extra special.

Thank you.
BTW, just as a piece of useless information, when I decided on the name of the board, I was thinking more of the land Bountiful in the Book of Mormon, and not the current city in Utah. However, try finding a photograph of the land Bountiful during BoM times.

Want me to step outside and take a picture of the Bountiful Temple for you???

Actually, what I should do is go take a picture of Pace's Dairy Ann.

Or tomorrow night is the Bountiful/Viewmont football game.  I could probably get some blood in the parking lot for you...

It's a pretty picture and all, but now I have to scroll down evertime I click on a link.

It is starting to bug me.

Is there any way to limit the picture to the main page only?

Pinky: Paces!? Get me a fresh lime slushy!!! I'd also like you to stop by Robintinos and get me a Cenetta, I like the ham and pineapple pizza! ;) And then get me some salsa from Su Casa...

Arb: Yeah, I figured you were thinking of the Book of Mormon... but I still think the Bountiful Temple is gorgeous... If I have time anytime soon, I'll try to put together a banner and I'll put it up as a reference on my deviantart site. (Did google search, There are hundreds of online pics of the Bountiful temple...)

What about a picture of a cornucopia to represent "Bountiful"?

Hey Arbilad...

I did this banner for the board this morning... Admittedly if I had ANY expertise whatsoever with Photoshop it would look a ton better. I think it looks okay though... and you can probably stretch it and make it fit the whole top of the webpage if you set the img attributes correctly on the page.

Grab and save the image at...

Try this link. Make sure you click on the thumbnail image, then save it to your disk... at the right size...

You can post it as a file to the forum. There's a button when you're posting entitled "Attach File"
I think that you can do the same thing with private messages.

If I get more time I'll fiddle with other ideas for a banner, dunno what's the standard size, or whatever...  Enjoy...

Well, I've temporarily put up the banner. I can't find a way to upload it yet, so I'm just using the url to Ray's banner for now. That means that the second Ray changes it it won't work. I'll find a better solution soon.

The problem is that deviantart isn't a good image host... :(  I wish I had a better solution, some place better for it.  Do you have to provide a URL for your image? Does anyone out there have a decent webpage? You'd think Google would have something...

Well, when I get some time on a real computer tonight, I'll be able to transfer it to my website. I serve images from there all the time.

You know, I like the picture and all, but.... I like the idea of the Land Bountiful in the BoM better. Isn't there a painting of Jesus at the Temple in Bountiful... in the gospel art picture kit or something?

This new banner makes it look like we're promoting the city of Bountiful, Utah. Are we?

If not, maybe there should be a disclaimer to that effect... ?

I dunno.

I've decided that Bok was right - after all, my original reason for choosing the name Bountiful was because of the Book of Mormon land. So I found a picture of the resurrected Christ at the Bountiful temple, and modified it for my own uses.

Oh, and I did a slight background change.

Of course, there is always the hope that having a picture with Christ at the center of it will help to instill a bit of decorum into certain posts and conversations that may or could potentially be lacking...  Not that we have been having a lot of problem with this... But some folks could ask if they are going to feel as free to speak freely...  Begs the question then of what they define as the difference between speaking freely and speaking in a mutually respectful manner.

The only concern I have with the new "skyline" is that the image is derived from a copyrighted...  er, but then most of us probably have copyrighted derived images as our avatars...

Hey Arbilad, I like the new picture. But the Christmas background kinda clashes with it, dontcha think?

Face it. The combo is just plain Ugly.

If you copy the background image down to your desktop, you can see what Arbilad is covering up by the new Bountiful banner...

Does this work better for you, Bok?
With the earlier background picture, I compromised. I made the mistake of searching for a good Christmas wallpaper, and didn't find one that I liked. So I found one that I thought worked.
But I vastly prefer what I've done now. I just found a misletoe picture and used that for the background. Much simpler, and the colors are much brighter. All of the Christmas wallpaper I found was too busy and complicated to make a good forum background. But I really like the colors now.
Of course, I'm no good at matching colors, so maybe it's still ugly.

Thank goodness it is only holly and not mistletoe... we'd all have to be kissing one another everytime we logged in...

I can see it now... (to the tune of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus)
I saw Rayb kissing Arbilad
In the onine forum late last night
It was a shock to see
I was afriad of getting cooties
So I logged off before anyone could get hold of me

The holly definitely isn't pagan. haven't you heard The Holly and the Ivy?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holly_and_the_Ivy

Some say it is of pagan origin, but it's definitely been turned to Christ.

I like the blue snowflakes, Arbi.  I probably won't see any real ones here in Fort Worth, so these will bring back sentimental images of my idyllic childhood Idaho when I would come into the house crying because my fingers and toes were frozen.

Good times.  Good times.

My wife twisted my arm to do the snowflakes. For a short period of time I had, as a joke, a tonka truck as the background. But yes, I think that snowflakes are a nice generic winter theme.
