I'm experimenting with creating polls. Answer this one if you want, and give me feedback on what other polls might be interesting.

I voted for Unrighteousness and Secret Combinations because it's the two things the Book of Mormon warn about. In my opinion, Islamic Fundamentalists come close because I believe they are the pawns (and therefore part) of the Secret Combinations.

BTW, one thing I forgot to mention is that users can create polls too. So, if you want to create polls, go ahead.

Okay, so I voted. I can see the results of the pole after I vote. Can I come back later and see the results of the poll, or do I have to vote again to see it? That would seem bad to me...
I'm not sure how that works. I know I set the poll to close in 4 days, so after that point I would assume it would show the final results.

What seems weird is that it let me vote for as many things as I wanted. So I voted for everything just to mess it up. Can you control how many votes people get?

Well, there are different ways to set up polls. You can set them up in such a way that you can only vote for one thing. Or you can let them vote for several. However, once you have voted, you cannot vote on the same poll again.

I voted for the Unrighteousness of the people. Ultimately a people governed by the people can correct any problem, if they live righteously. Further a lot of things, including secret combinations, cannot flourish in a society of righteous individuals.
This has been a concern of mine, because we are so wealthy and so blessed, that we've become complacent about it, and permissive to the point where we embrace all the nasty stuff...

I ended up selecting 4 or 5 items, and now I don't even remember what they were... something about Hell's Angels sewing circles and unirghteous islamic fanatical teaparties where lock combinations are discussed.
I was surprised that the following items weren't included: Giving Rayb and Cat Herder moderator functions; killing off the Ray character in Volume 2 of Bean's Song; reading Cat Herder's blog (aka death by boredom)...
What is interesting with the poll function that I've seen is that one has to be logged in as a forum member in order to be able to vote. I wonder if there is the possibility of showing who votes how in a poll. I can see that being useful in certain instances.
Has anyone been able to vote a second time?

On the MyFamily.com site, with my immediate family we use this all the time, because it's really fun to see who votes for say, "What's your favorite icecream?" and then see all the commonalities you have with other members of your family.

What I find interesting is that in second and third places, at a dead-even tie is Islamic Facism and Secret Combinations. Aren't these pretty much one and the same? I'm not saying all Secret Combinations are of the Islamic variety, but the Islamic Extremists are most definitely engaging in Secret Combinations.

I thought they were different enough to make them different options. While every Islamic extremist may be part of a secret combination, not everyone who is a member of a secret combination is also an Islamic extremist. Some people may feel, for instance, that Islamic extremists are more dangerous than the other varieties of secret combinations, such as the Crips and the Bloods. Others may feel that either the Islamic extremists aren't the most dangerous variety of secret combination, or that they are only one of several. What's amusing to me is how many people are voting for sewing circles.

Sounds like big brother to me...
What I meant was in case we ever wanted a non-confidential roll call for something. Like today's lunch selections are X, Y, or Z... please indicate your preference so the administrative assistant picks up the proper number from the deli... I am a proponent of transparency to prevent the very orwellian sibling rivalry you so rightly caution of.

There is little doubt the Terrorist groups are secret combinations kinda like the mafia ... but there are far scarier and bigger secret combination groups. Consider Ether 8:25,
"For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people."
In other words, they seek to conquer the world (not just America and Israel), and this secret combination will SUCCEED in doing so ... in bringing to pass Armageddon shortly preceeding Christ's Second Coming.
Most of the major ills of the world have been caused by well-meaning people who ignored the principle of individual freedom, except as applied to themselves, and who were obsessed with fanatical zeal to improve the lot of mankind-in-the-mass through some pet formula of their own...The harm done by ordinary criminals, murderers, gangsters, and thieves is negligible in comparison with the agony inflicted upon human beings by the professional ‘do-gooders,’who attempt to set themselves up as gods and who would ruthlessly force their views on all others with the abiding assurance that the end justifies the means. (Ezra T. Benson, quotes Henry G. Weaver, An Enemy Hath Done This, p. 140)
The early Prophets including John Taylor and others have warned repeatedly of the Communist threat even before the Bolshevik Revolution. In the days of J Reuben Clark, David O. McKay, and Ezra Taft Benson, they gave so many talks regarding the Constitution and Communism that the Saints (en masse) gave a deaf ear to them. Both in October 1959 (McKay) and October 1961 (Benson) the Brethren recommended Cleon Skousen's book The Naked Communist that exposes the connection between secret society Wall Street bankers and Communistic regimes.
I'm under the theory that these secret societies that support Communism (and Socialism) are not only supporting the Terrorists, but also encouraging our warring with the terrorists. In other words, they are the pawns, and they WANT us to attack these pawns instead of everything else. Another of the secret combinations' goals is to whittle away our Constitution - and I think Bush fell into their trap on this one.

And I think the fear and hatred of communism and socialism, has crippled many a conservative's ability to think objectively about social betterment for fear we'll slide into a socialist morasse ruled by a benevolent dictator...

To every extreme, the equal and opposite extreme is comparatively vile to the first.
(compare far left to far right, or oligarchal feudalism to communism)

And since President Benson, have we heard much about Secret Combinations as a threat? And what ended during his term.......hmmm......was it.....the Communist threat?
I see the Islamofascists as a form of Secret Combinations, and I do not doubt that there are still other SCs that are cause for concern (mafia, drug dealers, porn peddlers, sex traders, MoveOn.org , etc.) but I don't believe there is some Super-SC that has control of the world, through the UN, the World Bank, the Skull&Bones Society, etc.
I will agree that there is a "globalist" elite of people who already hold no allegiance to any particular nation. They are the ones for whom illegal immigration is no problem, and for whom the Supreme Court should take into consideration Zimbabwean Law. But I think they are just another faction in our Republic, and not some sort of secret cabal.

When Pres. Hinckley gets called home, will temples cease to be important? Obviously not. I don't think that, just because subsequent presidents have had a different focus, that means that the issue is no longer important.

How many Secret Combinations groups do you know seek to conquer the world, destroy all people, and allow the rich to go completely unpunished?

If anybody believes the communist threat is dead, I've got a nice old bridge over the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn for sale at a good price.
Isn't it reasonable to assume that most people who understand freedom from oppression is not a static thing to take for granted would also agree that since said freedom is a side effect of living the principles of righteousness, there will always be factions of unrighteous people that overtly or covertly seek to overthrow the freedom for their own agenda? The Book of Mormon teaches us this time and time again. And it teaches us there are two ways of dealing with this. First and foremost, the people need to live righteously and by so doing, remove the threat the minority faction(s) could pose in wresting power. Second, when things get to the point bloodshed is no longer preventable, live even more righteously and be ready for the seige.
The adversary's goals have never changed from day 1, and many of the subtleties employed by his minions and those who list to his influence are only the same things with new faces put on them down throughout the ages.

Indeed Catherder, it's history repeating itself in one form or another, and we have at least 6 examples of this in the Book of Mormon:
Lehi
Nephi in 2 Nephi chapter 5
Nephi quoting Isaiah regarding Assyria and Babylon
King Benjamin's father
Alma the elder
Jared and his brother

Please elaborate on the examples you provide. I was thinking more of all the many dissensions that occured amongst the Nephites, of the King men and Captain Moroni, of how all the people in the land gathering together and starving out the gadiantans while the gadiantans laid seige, etc., of how Alma indicated they had greater success in turning people's hearts by preaching the gospel.

In each of the five examples (minus the Isaiah one), there's a pattern. First, gathering not necessarily the righteous, but those who believe in the warnings and revelations of the Lord. After gathering a large group, the Lord leads them to flee the impending destructions to come upon the wicked. Those left behind face destruction and/or bondage.
Armageddon / WW3 will be much like the book of Mosiah, wherein there will be two groups - those who are prepared like the 5 virgins, and those who are left behind to suffer the most extreme hardships. And now with this knowledge one can begin to understand the boring Isaiah chapters: 2 Nephi 6-8, 12-24.
… After a while the Gentiles will gather to this place by the thousands, and Salt Lake will be classified among the wicked cities of the world. A spirit of speculation and extravagance will take possession of the Saints, and the result will be financial bondage. Persecution comes next, and all true Latter-day Saints will be tested to the limit. Many will apostatize, and others will stand still, not knowing what to do. 'Darkness will cover the earth and gross darkness the minds of the people.'
The Judgments of God will be poured out upon the wicked to the extent that our elders from far and near will be called home. Or in other words, the gospel will be taken from the Gentiles and later on will be carried to the Jews.
The western boundaries of the state of Missouri will be swept so clean of its inhabitants that, as President Young tells us, when we return to that place, 'There will not be left so much as a yellow dog to wag his tail.'
Before that day comes, however, the Saints will be put to a test that will try the integrity of the best of them. The pressure will become so great that the more righteous among them will cry unto the Lord day and night until deliverance comes.
Then the Prophet Joseph and others will make their appearance and those who have remained faithful will be selected to return to Jackson county, Missouri, and take part in the upbuilding of that beautiful city, the New Jerusalem.
