I don't see a thread yet for members to introduce themselves to each other, so this might be a good place. Maybe Arbilad will even sticky it :)
I'll start. I've been participating as roper66 on Nauvoo forum for about a year. It looks like a few Nauvoodles have started participating here as well. I'm pleased we now have this forum to discuss political issues.
I've been a member of the church my entire life. I'm married. We have four children ages 6 months to 16 years (teenagers, ugh.) My first career was in the Air Force--I served as an intelligence officer. Last year, I started a master's program in education. I recently accepted a position teaching elementary school. And I recently got released from the best calling in the entire church: Primary Chorister.
So who are you and why are you here?

And I usually don't have really strong political opinions. In fact, a lot of the time I have a 'la, la, la...I can't hear you!' attitude toward the news. But I feel like I should know more about current events and such, so I like to feel all smart when I read up on stuff that other smart people say on threads. And I like to call people on it when they say something stupid...not that I expect I'll have opportunity for that much here.
I'm here because I'm bored with Nauvoo. And because all my kids are now in school and I'm trying to waste as much time as possible. :)
I tend to avoid mainstream news, mostly because I feel such a sense of helplessness about world events that it just adds stress to my life. So I focus on my family, hoping to raise righteous, responsible, contributing adults. I am active in my community, and participate in local politics. I think that is where we can make the biggest difference -- the world right outside our front door.
Anyway, I hope to learn more from all the wise folk who have thunk the big thoughts. And I hope we truly can keep this forum civil and objective. I wonder how long the honeymoon will last....
Well your thread wasn't just stickied it was given a whole subforum. Cool
Hi,
I am SMILE. I am a lifelong church member. I served a mission to the Pocatello Idaho area from 2000-2002. I am currently the branch clerk of my singles branch. Yeah I guess that means I am single still. SMILE stands for Spiritualy Minded Is Life Eternal. Taken from a verse in 2 Nephi.
I am a student at my local community college, going into accounting. I currently own my own home business, a very small home business, doing bookkeeping. Basicly my one client is a small pizza restaurant, and I am working on getting a couple more regular clients.
I came here because I saw the link at Nauvoo, and I am always up for a new forum. Hello, my name is SMILE, and I am a forum junkie. I may lurk some but I promise to participate some as well. Especially if the conversation catches my interest. Well I look forward to conversing with you all.
Oh, very well. I too am a Nauvoodle. New to the church, baptised in June '06. I am female, a widow, no children, 42. I raise spotted horses, but the breed is not Appaloosa nor Paint. If you want to know more about my horses, you'll have to ask, since this isn't a forum for or about horses. Unless they are the subject of political debate, of course.
Hmmph!! What kind of forum has emoticons for a cowboy, a cow and a sheep, but not a horse?!?
Thanks, Arbi, for starting this forum!

Well, it appears nearly everyone here so far is associated with Nauvoo. (or like me was... )
I wasn't sure if I should start my own introduction thread yet. Thanks for this opportunity to keep in touch with folks, Arbilad, and for inviting us to take part in what will hopefully be a very successful endeaver!
But, mostly, I'd like to bear you my testimony of the truth of this forum tool, for it has so many great emoticons... I mean, if you look at them all, we've even got a Silent Ninja (green no less), a donut, a blah blah blah! So many emoticons... So much opportunity to use them in new and interesting ways... like I'm wondering how we will define these ones

I'm Melissa. I'm 34, mother of two, (and one on the way), happily married, living in The-middle-of-nowhere, Kansas. I've got about 100 posts or so at Nauvoo, and I've been there at least a year, I think, so I'd call myself a quiet poster there. I'm not a good political debater, but I do keep up on current events and have definite opinons, so I figure this is a pretty safe place to practice expressing them.
I'm a news junkie, but don't necessarily accept things at face value. The media spin can be so riddiculous at times. My favorite "news" show is Glenn Beck on Headline News. I've been a fan of his forever and have really enjoyed his take on current events and his perspective. My hubby and I watch his show every night. If you're familiar with him and his stuff, you'll surely see it leaking through in my posts. I just find so much of what Glenn says to really ring true with me.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the interactions with all of you on this board.
Hi, I'm Tyro. I used to post a lot on Nauvoo--not so much anymore. I decided to use the same name, though, 'cause then everyone'll know who I am.
Arbilad, you had a picture of a basset hound in your avatar library. That makes you cooler than cool!
I wish now that I could say that I put together the avatar library, but it wasn't me! If you want to thank anyone, thank Bokbadok. She paid for the first month of the board and made the avatar library available. While I'm at it, everyone please make a contribution.

Hello. I changed my name from Nauvoo but here I am Rocinante. When I saw that Rocinante was Sancho's over the hill nag, I figured that pretty much describes me.
He was overrun by an entire herd of cats stampeding to find out the answer.

Actually, Rocinante was the name Don Quixote gave his horse Already starting by getting close but not quite there. What can I say? As for who I am? It's tempting not to say, just that I'm in the witness protection program.
