Arizona's new step to combat illegal immigration

"Defending its legality, Gov. Jan Brewer signed what is the toughest state law in the country designed to combat illegal immigration. The governor rejected claims that the legislation, which gives police more power to stop and detain those not in this country legally, amounts to legalized racial profiling. She said the measure, in the version that finally reached her Monday, contains sufficient protections to individual constitutional rights. And if that isn't enough, Brewer signed an executive order requiring that all police officers get proper training about when they can -- and cannot -- stop and question people about their immigration status.Brewer's signing came a day after she directed that $10 million be made available to local and tribal police agencies which propose ways they can assist border security efforts. She also directed the state Department of Public Safety to come up with plans to help border counties if they seek assistance.Friday, as the day before, she said Arizona needs to act because of the failure in Washington"   (Howard Fischer/Arizona Daily Star)

From an acquaintance who works in the AZ state capitol:
"I haven't had any discussions with any of the senators yet, but it sounds to me like Obama is rumbling about trying to stop it. And I was told by someone in my Ward tonight that Janet Napolitano said in an interview today, "Oh, Governor Brewer signed the bill ...? Oh, that's too bad -- now we won't be able to give Arizona any federal funding." I hope that's true because it would save a lot of time and effort if they would just cut us off altogether. We want to get out from under the feds, and this would do it!! I hope it's true! smile.gif So, to answer your question, "What do I expect?" I guess I won't be surprised if Obama tries to stop us -- either through cutting off federal funding or something else. I'm sure it won't take him long to try to bully us back into submission."

Racial profiling is a bogeyman. People are taught to be afraid of it, as if it's an evil thing in all cases. But consider this totally hypothetical scenario: say a white man robs a bank in Harlem (I know, there probably are no banks in Harlem). The teller reports to police that it was a white man that robbed the bank. Are the police going to be looking specifically for a white man running away from the bank? You bet they are! That's racial profiling.
Of course, like any tool, it can be badly misused. Cops shouldn't stop only black speeders, for instance. But I think that happens a lot less than people think it does.
The stark truth is that if you're looking for illegal aliens in Arizona, they are not likely to be Irishmen, or black people, or Chinese. They are likely to be hispanic, and sometimes arab terrorists. So the cops are in a rough situation; either they ask a lot of people who are obviously here legally about their immigration status, or they get accused of racial profiling because they're asking mostly hispanics about their immigration status.

As much as I applaud the efforts that went into getting this bill (1070) written and passed,  I have serious doubts about how effective it will be.   This is because of the tremendous powers in the U.S. FedGov, the AZ stateGov and in the business and other communities here in AZ that oppose this action.

To understand the obvious peomotion of illegal immigration and amnesty issues in depth, I believe it is necessary to understand the bigger picture.   Here is what I believe is really going on.   There is a globalist conspiracy, also spoken of by some as a secret combination, determined to destroy American sovereignty and push Americans into yielding up essential freedoms by creating war, conflict, and hardship.   To this end, mass immigration of people who place tremendous burdens on our society and public services has been and is being fomented by those determined to destroy our economy and culture.   But this same goal is also being accomplished by the global warming hoax, the terrorism hoax carried out by false flag Ops and media hype, undeclared wars that hurt our economy and wear down our military forces, and other actions that are leading to the destruction of the American economy and culture.   We must be understand the nature of the conspiracy; We must understand our enemies.

I have concluded that the purpose of this destruction is to make Americans more willing to accept a socialist or fascist dictatorship to replace what is left of our constitutional republic. All this is intended by people who have been and are still the puppet masters of recent US Presidents and many in Congress, as well as of others in business and the media, to eventually enable them to make this country subject to a single world government.

Obama's lap dogs in the 9th Circuit Court will throw it out.

Brewer knew that when she signed it.

My good friend who is a spokesman for Phoenix PD and is on the news frequently says officers have wanted something like this passed for quite sometime.

If it stands, you will see crime go down here in a big way.

I find it sad that reportedly only 60% of all Americans support the Arizona 1070 law or something similar, and in states where illegal immigration is a particular problem only 70% support the law.   Such low numbers, which I can believe, show lack of understanding of the threat to our freedoms that this illegal immigration presents, as well as selfishness and greed.   I encounter a substantial element, especially in church, who believe we should welcome anyone who wants to come here, although I detect a definite preference toward Hispanics.   Elsewhere, I assume the 30% and 40% figures represent certain business people and Hispanic Americans who wish to infuse more of their own culture into the United States.

Colorado is not a border state, but illegal immigration is a huge issue here. In fact, one of the biggest closed border advocates, Tom Tancredo, was a congressman earlier in Colorado.

Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce told me a few years ago of a conversation he had with Congessman Tancredo in which the congressman told Pearce that among the biggest supporters of amnesty and other supports for illegals are Mormon members of Congress.   Two names mentioned that I remember were Chris Cannon (UT) and Jeff Flake (AZ).

One thing that could happen as Arizona enforces 1070 is that the FedGov, which has more armour and firepower than Arizona, could send in forces to dissolve the Arizona state government and replace it with appointed individuals beholden to the FedGov.   I remember the FedGov sending regular US Army into Alabama to enforce desegregation (or racial integration) in public schools.   The FedGov did it then; it can do it again.   And backing of the United Nations will put more "world opinion" on the side of the FedGov.

I don't think the backlash against the FedGov would amount to much.   There are many residents of Arizona who oppose deportation and support amnesty.   And many members of the LDS Church oppose deportation and support amnesty.

This is a thorny issue, and I think that there are those who consider the issue too much with their hearts and not with the Spirit or their minds.

An LDS lady who has been secretary to 2 diffeerent LDS Arizona state senators had this to say in reply to my above posted concern about the FedGov retaliating against Arizona:

"No, I don't think that will happen.   It's more likely that they would cut off some federal funding.  That is the hammer they hold over us.  They have already started to retaliate with EPA rules.  They recently ruled that Arizona is out of compliance with "dust" standards, and they are talking about imposing sanctions.  There is some speculation that this is in retaliation.  I'm sure we'll see more of that.  I think we're a ways off from from anything as overtly totalitarian as some sort of armed intervention.  I don't rule it out, but the federal government has a lot of strings it can pull that would make it very uncomfortable before calling in the troops.  Imagine if they cut off Medicaid funding?  You would have an uprising.  They can use money as a very effective weapon.  That's my opinion."

It is increasingly obvious to me that many Americans, including many in and behind our government, would like to flood this country with imigrants from Latin America.

Arizonas anti-illegal immigration leader, State Senator Russell Pearce lost his recall election to Jerry Lewis, also a republican, because of the tremendous support for his ouster from normaly democrat voters and many Mormons.   Lewis was touted as being soft on illegal immigrants, a former LDS bishop and stake president, a great family man, etc., etc.   The guys that funded the recall initiative are now planning on going after the other arch conservatives in the legislaturemostly likely State Senator Andy Biggs will be their next target in the state legislature.   They also recently came to a Mesa City Council meeting and clamored for something akin to the Utah Compact for the citypromoting a form of local amnesty.   And they also have their sights on Arizonas toughest Sheriff, Joe Arpaio.   They have already appealed to the county board of supervisors to fire him (which they cannot do) and failing that, they are launching a media campaign against him.   The Nr. 1 rag in Arizona, the Arizona Republic, and the TV news, run stories weekly with allegations of various indiscretions and cruelty, etc.

This whole controversy has demonstrated how church members on one side or the other of a hot issue like this can get very contemptuous of each other.
