SALT LAKE TRIBUNE -- November 10th, 2009 @ 8:58pm
In a rare move, the LDS Church announced Tuesday night its support of Salt Lake City's proposed ordinances protecting gay and transgender people from discrimination in housing and employment.
"The church supports these ordinances," said spokesman Michael Otterson, "because they are fair.  They also are entirely consistent, he said, with church teachings."I believe in a church that believes in human dignity and treating people with respect when we disagree ... especially when we disagree."
The move was hailed by leaders of Utah's gay community -- some of them stunned -- who called it groundbreaking policy that they hope will set the stage for statewide legislation. http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_13758070

This takes away the rights of the landlords and businessmen to use their property and money as they sees fit, without government interference.
The Lord commands us to discriminate and protect our families from perversion.  (D&C 98:10-11).
Here the Church is approving something that may go against conscience.

Supposedly this bill 'balances the rights of both parties', whatever that means. They say it isn't going to force anyone to rent out there basement to someone they don't want, or force a religion owned operation to hire someone they don't want.

Unfortunately this will end up infringing on someones rights of association. Things are going to get ugly.

It seems to me that this was inevitable the instant the church said that they didn't oppose gay rights as long as it doesn't infringe on the family. If they opposed these ordinances after stating what they had previously, we wouldn't have any credibility.
