"YOU LIE"

I imagine by now we've all heard of the recent outburst  "YOU LIE!"  by South Carolina Congressional Representative Joe Wilson during President Obama's speech to Congress on health reform.  I'll concede that Wilson could have expressed himself more civily by shouting "NOT TRUE" or the like.  But I personally think Wilson's biggesst mistake was in apologizing.  His outburst came specifically after the President labeled critics of his bill liars for arguing that illegal aliens would be covered under the plan.  While not specifically true, it is effectively true since the bill lacks any provision for checking on legal status.

In another falsehood, Mr. Obama claimed that his new market for insurance exchanges will provide voluntary incentives for insurance companies to compete, by joining forces in pools. "This is how large companies and government employees get affordable insurance. It's how everyone in this Congress gets affordable insurance."  Not hardly!  Congressmen get cradle to grave protection at zero cost to themselves. No private company can offer that

In another deception, he claimed, "First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits - either now or in the future. Period."  I consider this a whopper of a lie and an impossibility.  There will surely be "a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don't materialize."  No way will Congress follow through on that anymore than it balances the budget annually. They will simply employ magic accounting tricks like they do now to hide current deficits.

I think Rep. Wilson did a great service to us all by making at lest some Americans aware of falsehoods in Obama's speech.

Martin Frost congressman from Dallas 1979 to 2005:

"Members of Congress are eligible, like all other federal employees, to sign up for one of the "cafeteria" health insurance plans offered all other federal employees. If they sign up for one of these policies, the federal government pays two-thirds of the premium and the Congressman pays the other one-third. This is comparable to insurance offered by many private employers.

During the 26 years I served in Congress, I always signed up for one of the Blue Cross plans that had both deductibles and co-pays.

The family (spouse and children) of House and Senate members are not entitled to be treated by the Capitol attending physician and thus must be covered by private insurance. I always included my wife and minor children under my Blue Cross plan and paid the higher family premium."

So you are saying, "technically" President Obama did not lie?  The proposed health care bills do not allow for illegal aliens to receive health care, agreed?

If you want to solve the illegal alien problem, you cannot do it by denying health care to them.  Doctors have this silly thing called "compassion."  If an illegal alien shows up at the emergency room with a broken arm, they try to make them better, rather than having them deported, which is exactly what they should do.  Doctors should not be INS agents on the side.

The plain truth is that most illegal aliens that have health coverage now, have it through their employers, just like most of us.  That is where the problem lies, not with the health care laws.

So far, it seems to me, you are 0-2.
