Remnant of Jacob

The other day an LDS acquaintance was telling me about some DNA studies that seem to indicate that the Hispanic population of Central and Latin America are decended from Asiatics, where as the Indians of the Eastern American tribes are descended from people of the Mideast. If this is true. the Eastern Indians would be the "remnant of Jacob", not the Hispanic people.

Is anyone aware of this or have any insights into it?

I noted that at the time the temple ordinance work was done for the Founding Fathers in the St. George Temple in late August 1871, work was also done for many of the Eastern Indians, like Techumseh for one, and others who I believe were chiefs of tribes like the Algonquins, the Delewares, the Mohegans, the Mohawks, and others.

I think that sometimes with those DNA studies they find the result they're looking for, and not necessarily the correct one.
