LDS missionary arrested as an illegal immigrant

The arrest of an undocumented immigrant returning last week from his LDS mission, as reported in the 27 April Salt Lake Tribune, has sparked discussion at the highest levels of the church about how to limit such exposure in the future. The proper way to deal with this problem IMO is for the LDS Church to advise all of its members who are residing in the United States illegally to return to their country of origin, where they can, if they wish, initiate the process for their legal immigration into this country. Having lived recently in both Arizona and Utah, I am well aware that many LDS Church members, in spite of their stated belief "in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honouring, and sustaining the law", have generally been supportive of illegal aliens who are members of the church. I don't blame those folks for wanting to come here. But they should do so in accordance with our laws, and not be part of the stampede that is battering down our borders and destroying our country.

Definitely. Also, with the recent illness scare, we should all be more aware of the fact that illegal immigrants, because they don't go through a health screening, daily bring over diseases that used to be rare here.
