Illinois governor arrested

Arrested, charged, released, back at work?  Drudge Report says he's not stepping down. Does this man have dirt on Obama or Emmanuel?

I wonder if it's one of those "If I go down I'm taking you all with me" type situations.

Free,

I think that's a good guess, and a sad commentary on the state of our country.

Supposedly, Tony Rezko, friend of Chicago politicians and arrested for fraud in October, has been "singing" in order to lessen the charges against him. Perhaps he pointed a finger at the Illinois governor, and perhaps they just periodically check them to see what they're up to. The previous Illinois governor was convicted of fraud and extortion, if I recall correctly.

This story of corruption is meant to be a diversion from the systemic corruption that resulted in the bailouts.

I think you got that exactly right, Jason. Sure, this is sickening. But it's an old magician's trick to distract attention with one hand whilst doing something else with the other hand.

That's the way I though about the Monica Lewinski affair; a smoke screen for the Chinagate affair, which could and should have gotten Clinton accused of potential treason.  Congress was fully informed about Chinagate, but declined to move aggressively against the betrayal.

Gov Blagojevich has decided to appoint Ronald Burris to fill Senator Obama's vacant Senate seat. The Senate has vowed to not seat him. However, that may be unconstitutional. The constituion has only 3 requirements for Senator, and Ronald Burris fulfills all three of them. Senator Reid should think hard before he tries to circumvent the constitution, even if Blagojevich is corrupt.

Legally I think that he was well within his rights to make the appointment. He's not impeached yet; he's still governor. I heard someone on the radio today (an Illinois election law expert) say that legally the AG in Illinois has no reason to refuse to certify the appointment, and they can get a court order forcing him to. I don't think that it's a good appointment, but it seems to be legal.
