Core group doing most of the work

In my experiences it seems that most of the work done in a ward or branch is always done by a core group of people.  There is the regular group that always makes sure things are done, show up to service projects or help out, are willing to sub in classes, etc.

Is that the way it is elsewhere?

I agree. I see that even in my family and my husband's. And work, for that matter.

Yeah, pretty much. Thankfully, I'm not in the core group. rofl.gif

Just joking, people! Sheesh.

You're funny coco.

There are several families at ours that basically handle 90% of the work. I have what could be construed as five callings given what I end up doing. I sure would not mind sharing the load.

This forum is just like a small branch. And excuse me, but Coco most certainly IS one of the core group.

I talked about that with my previous bishop. He said there were 20-25 families in the ward he could count on to actually do anything he asked and accept any calling extended.

We are lucky to have that many families on a Sunday!

Here's a rule of thumb I've noticed in the Church and any other organization I've ever been in:

15% of the members do 85% of the work...

Do you think sometime this trend is because those who are in the core groups don't ask/trust others to do work?

I know of an example where a person in a leadership calling resists attempts to help share the load by the others who could greatly lighten the load of this person.

No I don't. I think it is laziness. As I used to say when nobody would sign up to help clean the church on our month, "why should I clean the building, I don't own it."

Ooooh... cleaning the building. That's been kind of a sore spot. I think people receiving the Church welfare should be cleaning the building.

I was in a ward once that did that.

BTW, this is why I loathed and despised group assignments in school. Whenever we were told to form groups and do an assignment, inevitably there would be one person who did most of the work, another person who helped a bit, and one or more (depending on the size of the group) who did nothing except add their name to the top of the assignment. It always seemed to me to be just a method to raise the average grade of the class.
