I've heard in many news stories about Republicans who are planning to vote for Obama. I can understand, but not agree with, Republicans holding their nose and voting for McCain. But it's shocking to me that, for instance, Christopher Buckley, the son of William F. Buckley (a very famous Republican commentator), has decided to endorse Obama. What enters into their heads? Why did they choose to ally themselves to the Republican party if any part of what Obama is saying appeals to them? Obama is the most socialistic presidential candidate we've ever had. His policy views are poison. What would possess a Republican to plan to vote for him?

Some people are comparing this so-called transition to the 1980 emergence of Reagan Democrats: blue collared, southern white men who traditionally voted Democrat but had had enough of failed liberal policies and weak national defense.
There really is no comparison. The Obama Republicans have no issue that draws them "towards" Obama. It is more over issues that drive them "away" from the GOP of the last eight years. Those issues being out of control spending, a poorly executed war in Iraq and increased government bureacracy. In all cases, these seduced voters are in for a major hangover. I must admit that Obama looks and sounds more smooth and in control than McCain. But like mother said, looks aren't everything.
I knew the GOP was in trouble back in the 90's when they did nothing on term limits legislation. Some of the very things that they accused Democrats of doing for the previous forty years they managed to learn in twelve. Power is addciting stuff.
Yeah, I can see being upset with McCain because of his policies, but going to Obama because you don't like McCain is sort of like eating at Taco Bell 6 days a week instead of one because you don't like their food.

I believe that many people, including Republicans, have fallen into the philosophy that somehow electing Obama (regardless of his politics), is a way of atoning for our nations racist past. The fact that he gives good speeches makes it easier to ignore his policies.
Electing Obama may also give us a 2010 Republican revolution similar to the one in 1994, when they actually did a lot of legislative good. They have lost their way and need a good kick in the pants to find it again. Plus, the idea of hope and unity and change and optimism that Obama brings to the table is actually worth a lot, though intangible.
Presidential campaign promises and plans mean nothing. I'd worry more about what Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are planning, since they'll be in charge of writing or managing the actual legislation next year.
I do worry about absolute power that could go to the Democrats if they achieve a supermajority in the Senate. That unchecked power would ruin our nation. Work to keep the Democrats under 60 votes this time around, then wait for 2010 to come around for the Republicans to find their political compass, again.
Yeah, I hang out with people who seriously flirted at voting Obama in order to knock some sense into the GOP leadership. They were so ticked off at McCain they couldn't see straight for a while.

It is all part of allowing the anti-Christ to set up his kingdom and get the ball rolling. The problem is that I am not sure myself if I am kidding or not!
