Has anyone else noticed that class has been prominently figured in this election? The candidates are always talking about the middle class, the poor, the rich, etc. Every time Obama speaks I am frustrated, because you shouldn't be jealous of the rich, you should want to become rich and have the opportunity to do so. Setting a punishment for becoming rich (extra taxes) is a bad thing. People try less. Granted, you shouldn't set your heart on riches. But there is nothing evil about riches if you plan to do good with your money.

Not to mention that there are so many perks to staying poor. (And having your kids out of wedlock and even using bankruptcy as a get-out-of-debt-free card.)
How do you convince a person that it's better to step up to the lower middle class than stay on welfare when they will lose the free food, housing, childcare and other perks? Oh, and you'll have to work harder, but you'll get less. How do you instill a sense of self-reliance in people who have been taught to get whatever they can for the smallest amount of effort possible?
And by all means, let's blame the rich and the big businesses for the fact that you are poor even when you've chosen to be a welfare mooch. (And to be clear I'm not bagging on the elderly, disabled or those for whom welfare is seen as a place to work up from.)
But why should we expect any different? The system is set up to sustain poverty as a status quo. Because how would the liberal bleeding hearts feel superior if they didn't have the poor class to spoil? It amazes me that more people don't think maybe those liberals are just keeping the poor class as pets, because it all seems so ineffective and patronizing to me.

The problem is that socialism always sounds like a good idea to the carnal mind. Basically it's the same desire for something for nothing that we all have to overcome in ourselves.

Yeah, when you talk about something, it gets bigger and bigger. Pretty soon this whole "class" thing will be so huge and unfair... we'll cry out for equality! No matter what the cost!
