A call center is opening here in Idaho to call Californians and ask them to support Proposition 8 (constitutional amendment proclaiming marriage between one man and one woman). They want twenty people from each ward to work one 2-3 hour shift a week until the election. I got a phone call asking me to participate. I'm really scared about how these phone calls will go. . . but I told them my availability, and if I'm useful to them, I'll do it.

A similar thing is happening here in Arizona. Also, our stake and I believe other stakes are providing pro-marriage amendment yard signs and passing them out. I was asked to do the distribution in our ward. There were some refusals for reasons like lesbian nest door neighors and a family member objects. But the response was generally very good.
This causes me to wonder why it is that LDSs respond quite willingly to a request read over the pulpit requiring action of a political nature, but ignore a commandment given in the Doctrine and Covenants requiring action of a political nature.
Bless you Jen for doing your part. I probably would too if asked, although I hate calling strangers on the phone.

My husband and I talked it over, and he'll be the one representing our family if they need us. He's much better in tense situations, he's a great diplomat, and much better versed in pretty much everything. If they can still use me I'll do it, but for now I'm offering babysitting to those who are going, and hopefully the hours will be such that my husband can work phones.

That's a good resolution too. You accomplish the same goal, and still do something good.
