This reminds me of PT's thread about government theft - taking one person's money by force to give it to another. Except in this case you'd have to hope to get back some of what Barack wants to steal from you.
In Colorado Gov. Ritter is proposing a similar plan, to tax the oil companies. But what do you think oil companies will do if their taxes go up? They'll pass it along to the consumers! So it's really an additional $320 million in taxes that Gov. Ritter wants to take from us in Colorado.

This is kinda like California wanting to impose and extra tax on doctors to pay for insurance for the poor. (It'll just be reflected in higher prices).

Of course, the problem with that philosophy is that, according to the government's standards, most of us on this board are rich.

Duh. Ya'll forget that you'll save tons of money if you make sure your tire pressure is at an appropriate level.

BTW, did you see that Paris Hilton "commercial?" I saw it last night on Glenn Beck and laughed, but also thought it very strange that she made waaaayyyy more sense about energy plans than Obama or McCain. What's wrong with this country when Paris Hilton makes more sense that the 2 presidential candidates?????? weirdface

I saw part of the Paris Hilton commercial while eating lunch in the cafeteria yesterday. They were mocking it on the news. They then showed a clip of McCain saying something to the effect of "She makes more sense than Obama does!"
I'm with Glenn Beck on this issue; I don't care if we have to start drilling straight through a caribou's head to get oil, let's get started. So maybe we won't get any oil out of it for a few years. We need to start now so in a few years we'll have that oil.
Obama's strategy makes about as much sense as telling someone whose home is about to be foreclosed on to buy generic brand in the store to save enough money to get their house out of foreclosure. Sure, buying generic makes a lot of sense, but it's nowhere near the level of what you need in order to fix the problem. Same thing with energy. Yeah, making sure your tires are properly inflated is a good idea. But it's nowhere near sufficient to solve our energy problems.
The real problem, of course, is that the oil companies don't want to increase supply. They're perfectly happy with constricting supply and raising prices.

What frustrates me is that keeping appropriate tire pressure is a good idea. It makes sense and is effective. But, having the GOVERNMENT regulate something like that or the temperature in my home is called SOCIALIST or FASCIST. No one can see this when Obama (clue in the Hallejuia chorus) speaks. He's too revered. Crowds love him because he can speak a good talk without saying anything substantial. People aren't actually looking at the issues. And when you do, you have no idea what he wants/believes.

I think it is appalling that our congress took a 5 week vacation instead of voting on our energy plan. GRRRRR! I wish I could get a job like that. Don't want to upset your employer(s)? Take a vacation!
