Death by Dust-Off

I got an email about this form of potentially fatal abuse of Dust Off, and rather than cut and paste the email, I'll just link directly to Snopes.com.

I hadn't heard of this, but I'll be talking to my kids about it.  My oldest thought that she had possibly heard about it, but wasn't sure.

Kind of scary stuff.

Yeah, I heard about this at a 12 step mtg... well, just before one. I had stopped by the electronics store to buy some compressed air for Xanth before my meeting. It was decently warm and the can warned not to leave them in warm cars, so I headed into my meeting with the bag. I was teased by a drug addict for taking drug-able items into a mtg. I was embarrassed and you bet I have never done it again.

And I'm really not surprised anymore at what people will use to get high or whatever.

It's not just Dust Off, it is any aerosol. I've cited a few people for huffing.

Ok, Mirk, what's the strangest thing you've come across or heard of people using to get high or altered in state of mind?

Sad that people do that, I got a can of similar stuff earlier this week, it is just called Dust Remover. The can contains a warning about this very topic.

One question: my can uses a straw but no straw came w/the can. Any idea where you can get such a straw? Will a coffee stirrer work? I tried to use a bigger straw by folding it but it didn't work.

Also XANTH and HICCUPS: this week, I saw a car w/the license plate "XANTH"!! Anyway, didn't think you all lived in VA!!

OK, back to the thread!

And people wonder why I almost never start threads.  Thanks so much, coco!

Coco, haven't you learned that beneath her tough exterior, Bok is really quite tender-hearted and easily emotionally upset? Tread lightly, lest you scar her psyche.

I'm not sure what it does but I've heard of kids snorting crushed smarties.

I just heard a little while ago about Salvia. Scary stuff.

And the sick thing is, you can find videos on Youtube showing people getting high.

Ooh, just went looking for information on salvia since that one is new to me. What I see is that it's not illegal. That is scary in itself.

It's impossible to illegalize everything that stupid people can use to get high.  Please.  The whole concept annoys the heck out of me.

It literally is impossible to outlaw everything that can make you high. As a case in point, some people get high off of a fermentation of sewage products. I really, really don't see the government successfully outlawing the production of sewage.

I've heard of the crushed smarties thing, too. The powdery sugar is sort of like cocaine, from what I heard. Dunno.

Speaking of smarties, the "latest" (this from a video we saw in GD about 1-2 yrs. ago) is that the drugs now are most often "chewables" - like a smartie candy would be. Fear of needles? No problem! Here, try this... and they have cool little designs on them like a HP lightning bolt or a flower or a symbol or something...

Yeah, I still remember the marijuana lolipops they busted a man in Boulder, CO over. (Go figure that it was in Boulder. rolleyes ) Unlike with tobacco companies, courts aren't getting all worked up over the fact that drugs are directly marketed to children. Of course, there's not millions to be earned suing anyone over it.
