Immigrant workers are not slaves. They come here voluntarily. Beck's use of the word "slaves" further destroys his credibility with me.

I think using the word slave is hyperbole meant to get the attention of jaded Americans. I do believe that illegal immigrants are exploited and I think that was the real point.

I used to feel much more hardline on this issue until I became acquainted with the human side of it: My brother married a sweet Mexican woman who is here illegally. She is hardworking, honest, kind, and recently joined the church. My brother is happier than he's ever been. She is just the kind of citizen we claim we want here in the U.S., but if she's caught she could be deported for 10 years plus.

If only we could sift out the criminals and send them back, and let the productive ones stay...

I'd really like to know what kind of understanding and personal experience you have with the illegal labor issue, lundbaek. Your statement here seems to indicate a view from the cheap seats.
