I'm aware of at least one similar incident in Vietnam in the 1960's involving a soldier presumed dead.  At some point in the handling of his body, tears were noticed coming from his eyes.  He was retuned of further examination, found to be still breathing, and revived and made well.

That's where they got the saying "dead ringer" -- they'd tie bells to the dead guy when he was buried and if they'd ring the bell, you'd dig them up again... oops.
