A Sheriff in Arizona is telling illegals that they have a chance to go back to Mexico themselves before he starts patrols to arrest them.

I am against illegal immigration but I do not like the sounds of this. It sounds like racial profiling to me. I would be very upset if my grandchildren were picked up because they look latino and therefore had to prove they were american citizens. Are we really becoming a nation were the citizens have to carry their "papers" to prove who they are? The people that should be "booked" are the employers.
Arpaio's Mesa patrols will follow patrols at two Phoenix locations where day laborers gather and in the predominantly-Hispanic town of Guadalupe on the Phoenix-Tempe border. Critics have attacked the patrols as racial profiling. Arpaio denies that and says he just looking for criminals.
Well, dood can 'look for criminals' all he wants - as long as he respects the 4th amendment.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Probable cause is all fine and dandy, but "He looks mexican" isn't probable cause.

From my perspective, living in Mesa, Maricopa Co., AZ, Sheriff Joe is a tough old buzzard, but he has a tough job in and takes a lot of flak for addressing the illegals situation because so many people here support immigration, and don't care if they are legal or illegal. And that includes some members of the church around here, who hire illegals for "under the table" jobs. If only more Americans understood the real reason certain presidents, congressmen and others have promoted and supported illegal immigration to the extent they have, they would weep for this country.
Illegals don't have claim on the 4th Amendment, do they? Don't you have to be a citizen to claim all these privileges we have?
He's doing them a favor as I see it. He could just call the patrols and give them no notice. And I'm not buying the racial profiling thing. If you're legal, you simply show them and they would totally apologize I am sure and you're on your way. Big deal. They're just trying to get away with breaking the law instead of following the rules.

Obviously just being Mexican doesn't mean that you're here illegally (I work with a few Mexicans and quite a few people from South America). But I would call being on a street corner with other day workers looking for work probable cause. There's plenty to look for other than "He's Mexican". I don't buy the racial profiling bit either.

I don't spend much time in front of the TV, but I note that the story is big in the Phoenix area, and the media is, by selective interviewing, definitely giving more time to the complaints of certain Hispanics than to the Sheriff's side of the issue. IMO, Sheriff Joe is acting within the law, while many focus on ways to compel him to ignore the law.
It galls me no end that Our President & Co. obviously has no intention of stopping the influx of illegal immigrants. He and many in Congress have pushed to permit illegal aliens access to the benefits that legal Americans and legal aliens paid for. They condone legislation, already proven not to work, that would allow unlimited amnesty under one disguise or another, for illegals already here. It is clear to me they want more immigrants in the country, whatever it takes.
