This may not be the best place for this, but oh well.
Early last week hiccups got me thinking about Birkenstocks. ('Obsessing' might be a better term...) So I shopped and shopped and shopped without being able to find the kind I liked for less than $130...until I went to ebay and found a brand-new pair for less than $33! They came in today and they fit a little funny (mostly way too big but just wide enough because they are narrow) but I love them so much because they were such a good deal that I don't ever want to take them off. They are pretty comfy too.
Do you ever get inordinate amounts of pleasure from finding a good deal on something? So much that you sit around and grin when nobody is looking and just think, "man! I am so glad I got that deal!" and you can see the cheap part of you (you know, that cranky part that is always mad about how much everything costs and makes you feel all guilty for buying ANYTHING) grinning on the inside?
Dude, I love a good deal. And I'm all that I inspired you to seek birks.

MrCoco will get into good deals a lot. It doesn't even have to be something we even remotely need.
I on the other hand, do not care so much for the price of the deal, but what really gets me going is when I've been searching for something for a long time and then I finally find it. Example #1- I was on the waiting list at Sam Weller's for The Missouri Persecutions by B.H. Roberts (original copy - I realize there's new copies out now) for about 4 years. One finally came in, in terrible condition. I slapped down $75 for it before you could say, "That's mine!" That felt really good. Example #2- I knew (had my heart set) my next horse purchase was going to be a black Tennessee Walker mare. There weren't any around for sale that I knew of, but I just kept biding my time. I found an ad and she seemed perfect. But too expensive. I made an offer of about 60% of the asking price and left it at that. Three MONTHS later she says she's leaving for Europe and did I still want the horse for x dollars? She was in my field that weekend. That was Mother's Day a year ago. My 5yo was riding her around the field by herself last Wednesday and she was an absolute angel. I love that horse.

So, bargains... I've gotten some good ones. I love the hunt, but I do have to be careful to not just buy something because it's a ridiculously good price. Or to not overspend even on a budget item that would be useful. I have to watch that needs vs. wants line. (And that is why I'll be back in the envelope system next week. When the $ is gone, I won't even go window shopping.)
When we moved into this house, I was able to curtain the whole thing for around $150. Rods and all. That's 9 windows.
Several months back I got ~40 cans of turkey meat-only chili for $.70 ea. That's stuff that retails for $1.50 a can. It wasn't old or anything. The store just decided not to carry it anymore.
For me it's about taking the extra time to learn how the places I shop do their bargains and then taking the extra couple of minutes to check for them when I stop in. Back in Colorado, I frequently used to bargain shop for some of my friends, too. I'm still getting to know this area.

Maybe pack a water bottle and some calamine? And just go with that funky part.

Today: nice twin sheet set and set of 3 silicone basting brushes, $11 total. Both items were on my to-get list, too.

I just bought 30 boxes of plain Cheerios (14 oz.) for $.62 each. Albertson's is having them on sale 10 for $10 and then there were coupons on the cereal aisle. (There were a bunch of sugary cereals in that sale, too, btw.) The coupons were for $.75 off any 2. It takes a minute to wait on that dispenser to spit enough coupons out, but it's worth it to me. So with tax and everything, I spent $20 on 30 boxes of cereal. Oh, and as a bonus for my house of boys each box has a speedracer car (one of five kinds) in it. Where's the happy dance emoticon? This will do.
(And yes, we will eat all of the Cheerios before they expire even if I have to make rice crispy type treats with them.)
