I like the ones mentioned above, but my favorite is Simon Birch. Don't know that I ever would have seen it, but an LDS video store owner suggested it, and I really love it. Among other good points, it has the funniest Christmas program I've ever seen. And it's inspirational -- "God has a plan for me."
I used to watch the musical Oliver Twist over and over. There was another period where I watched National Velvet with Elizabeth Taylor again and again. Meet me in St. Louis is another favorite.
I like a lot of older movies. The one I'm thinking of today is The Andromeda Strain.

I love The Music Man. The original one, with Robert Preston. But I wish they could cut Shirley Jones out, and superimpose Kristin Chenoweth into her role. Then it would really rock.

Definitely, Jen, exactly what I was thinking, that would really rock!
Duke, I'll grab the jumbo bag of shell on salted roasted peanuts, bring some steaks to throw the grill, invite the rest of the guys over for some good flicks!

Although if I were Willow, I would have thrown a second acorn while the evil Queen was using her powers to not be overcome by the first one.

Hmmm. I'm all over the place with my movie choices.

Well, people, this thread provided the final impetus to go and find out what Netflix is - I kept hearing it being mentioned on forums and wondered what it was.
Netflix isn't available in Canada, but we've got home-grown versions. And whaddya know, the company that offered the best deal for our family is based right in my neck of the woods.
So now I'm an excited new member of Canflix, and my top 20 list includes Music Man, True Grit, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Season 1 of Babylon 5, BBC's Planet Earth, Season 1 of The Muppet Show, Short Circuit, Ghostbusters II, Gremlins II.... a bunch of stuff not available at our very lame local Blockbusters. (Except for Planet Earth, but it's never in.)
Wahooooo!

Yeah, that would be the reason we'd ever join a Netflix or similar. Thing is, if it's a movie we care that much to hunt down, we generally buy it.

Well, since we're talking movies, I figured this was the place to talk about a movie I just saw that blew me away.
I know we've talked before about viewing R movies, and there are some different opinions here, but I have to say that "Shawshank Redemption" made my day. It's been a crappy week, and watching it completely turned my mood around.
I would never have watched it, but I was at my sister's house, looking at my BIL's collection of favorite movies (stuff like Braveheart, Gladiator, Chariots of Fire, etc.) and noticed Shawshank was in there as well. I mentioned I hadn't seen it, and my sister said, "Really? It's one of Dad's favorite movies." I value my Dad's opinion a lot, so I went and rented it.
Strange, isn't it, that a movie with a lot of profanity and a couple of horrible scenes could make me feel so much better.
